dude i used to drink like multiple fifths a week only drinking beer is such an amazing improvement it's not even funny i don't miss coffee ground blood vomit every morning before pt or whatever

That was a morning ritual. THe coffee ground vomit. Not PT. I was LOL Force and had a job where we were told to PT on our own and just pass our physicals. I don't miss feeling like poo poo for most of the day, but frankly the booze in the evening is what kept me from re-painting the barracks walls every night. The worst feeling in the world was getting sober. If I could stomach the booze I would crawl back into the bottle.

i mean obviously i still drink so i'm not like cured or above anything but poo poo I don't think i can drink enough beer to get as hosed up as i did on rum and coke the thought of pouring myself a real drink kinda is  but sometimes I am tempted to go to a bar but eh its less tempting since I'm totally not willing to drive black out drunk everywhere anymore

That happens to a lot of people when they quit the good stuff. You don't just lose your taste, it gets to a point where even the smell of it is enough to turn your stomach. Happens a lot with ex-smokers too. Also drinking and driving is for fuckers.
