I should play Final Fantasy Tactics again. Kind of wish the PSP port ran better because the revised script is so much better than the original.

NANI?

If you can deal with touch controls and have a modern-ish phone or tablet the mobile port runs a lot better than the PSP version.
Alternatively emulating it will get rid of the performance issues too.

I've been playing FFXV a lot, trudging along, enjoying the scenery, doing a lot of sidequests. I really enjoy the game, except for the very bizarre voice work of every character that isn't one of the four buds. I'm at a point in the game where either a) the story is finally getting off the loving ground OR, I hope this isn't the case, b) the story is about to come to a very sudden and abrupt conclusion. I mean, a lot of stuff happens, and has happened, but it all seems to happen away from the player. Like, there's news of poo poo going down. There's the occasional phone call. There has been various harassment from bad guys, some story dude, you know...but I'm thinking about what I know of RPGs and storytelling in general, and this is the moment where, in a well told story, all the events are leading up to a dramatic conflict that will send the player on a dangerous mission that will hopefully make up the second half of the game. Or this "dramatic conflict" could just be the final boss.

Well, I guess I say all that because I enjoy the game but after many hours in I'm really only just now getting into the story. I want to keep going. Is the DLC worth getting? gently caress, it's expensive. I remember when an 'expansion pack' contained about as much content as the original game did. Well, that's a bit hyperbolic, that was actually kind of rare. But not as rare as getting a good deal on DLC.

Please post the trip report when you finish the main game. I won't say anything about the last half of the game, but the open world aspects of the game were very refreshing in a FF game.

There's a simple patch that fixes it on psp (or vita with henhaku or wtf the home brew thing is called there)

Did Agrias have a plot arc? I dint remember. She was my favorite character in FFT cuz she was a simple knight waaay in over her head that was all about duty in a game of thrones universe.

That, and the fact she's the first spellblade you recruit, and I leaned heavily on her in my team until you get flooded with spellblades later in the game

Her arc more or less ends when you recruit her. She will still occasional say things in battles but that's it. Same with all other recruitable NPC's because that is when their story is "over" and they can die in your party. It is, I think, the one biggest flaw with the story-telling in the game.

And it made one-eighth the difference.
I think WotL has some cutscene where Mustadio crushes on Agrias if you keep them and the three generics who join you in Chapter 2 in the party. That's pretty much it though.

You only need Lavian and Alicia, the two knights; Ladd Rad can die or be dismissed without issue. You need them because they show up in the cutscene, and I believe are where Mustadio gets the idea of what to buy her?

It's kinda sad because she is clearly to obsessed with her duty to consider romance, and basically takes it as a friendly appreciation gift (and promptly gives it to Ramza because clearly other members of the army can make better use of it).

It does, but it's super lenient. One someone dies they have 3 turns to get revived or for you finish the map before they poof into a crystal and disappear forever.

Yeah. If plot important characters die its game over, but all the recruited people (and npcs past their story significance) just fuckin die.

You have to be in way over your head or actively lazy to let someone die in FFT

Worst/hardest part about it is probably a few very tough point of no return fights that can gently caress you if you're a new player.

Maintain multiple save files and you should never run into any issues.

That Belias fight in particular is terrible if you don't have the speed bonus ability learned by the Squire job for Ramza.

Even with multiple saves there are some truly gnarly fights/awful gimmicks in the game that come with no warning. Dont feel embarassed to look at guides.

Adding to this: Be wary of the end of chapter fights. They're typically fought in succession, without he opportunity to leave after the first fight. Specifically, Riovanes Rooftop at the end of Chapter 3 is known for being a game-ending fight if you're not prepared. If you overwrote your main save between fights and don't have a fast team with good burst damage and immunity to Instant KO, welp.

Incidentally, this same advice works for every game Ramza is in. It's weird, he's been in a fair few games and has been broken in all of them, it's constant.

I like Bexvius, but I'd say this is reliant on that game having good music worth putting in Theatrythm. Record Keeper's had a fair few good remixes to its name, but Bexvius has... the battle theme?

iirc not having resistance to instant death is preferable in this case because if you have someone with no ko res and a lower evade than rafa but fast enough to get close to the assassins, the ai will de-prioritize rafa and bait to you

it really is one of the worst-designed fights in all of video game history, and i'm counting nes games that don't even work

Pretty much because while I've seen it happen when my friend was playing, I myself have never seen Rafa move away from the enemies instead of towards them, attack, and then die instantly.

Most of the tracks in Dissidia AC are arranged by Takeharu Ishimoto, Square's go-to for PSP/Vita/3DS games. His history includes the mobile Kingdom Hearts games, The Worlds Ends with You, FF7: Before Crisis/Last Order/Crisis Core, Type-0 and the previous Dissidia games. It makes sense When you consider that many of those games had some stuff waaaay out into left field in terms of soundtrack.

His stuff tends to be on the experimental side, and all over the place in terms of genre.
