They actually replaced all the main characters in the comics recently, and I 100% believe it was with the idea that they would be able to just slot in new Iron Man, new Thor, new Hulk, etc. and keep going without rebooting

That's just with petty cash. I'm surprised no one has moved to buy the nearly dead Sony pictures, since Viacom owns Paramount, Comcast owns Universal, and Time Warner became its own telecom giant.
