The huge tunnels between the rear wheels and engine bay are a great hint that they've really pushed the boat out on balls-out aero.

Grand Tour struggled to keep my attention over the whole series. The current Top Gear series is much better.

Was down at Dunsfold today as part of the audience for the series finale. No spoilers, but I enjoyed it, and it seems pretty clear that Matt, Chris and Rory do get on well together from how they interact in the studio.

Just saw these idiots filming today in Telluride. The tall one who beat up a bunch of people at his last job was sporting a white pimp coat and getting cash from the ATM. Captain Slow was looking quite chill in a plaid shirt. The two crappys Jags illegally parked in front of the Sheridan were probably part of the segment.

Top Gear has made a quantum leap in quality, but the long-rear end celebrity chats with all 3 often kill the middle 1/3 of the show stone dead. Grand Tour started extremely erratically and ended well. If they keep it up and gas The American then GT will be better, but it's definitely a race now that Top Gear shows it can be genuinely good instead of an atomic waste dump.

It still seems like they are missing some magic in their field pieces. The Cuba stuff was neat in what it showed, but it lacked narrative feel even though they explicitly explained the narrative. They mentioned in the studio of them practically living in the cars for a week, but the way the piece was edited, it just felt like they were running around Cuba in an afternoon. It's just all presented very flatly. Here are the interesting things we did, back to the studio. Not bad, but not very memorable.

This would have been ok if TGUS hadn't already done a Cuban special and did it much better.

They aren't awful together but they need some time to get comfortable and be able to do their own thing in studio and not have dumb studio stuff like TG australia.

TGUS actually got cars from Cuba, Soviet engines and all. They had to drive them around and also get parts made to fix them. Then I'm pretty sure they drag raced those same exact people.

Hadn't seen a single episode of the Chris Evans TGUK until last night and holy poo poo that was horrible. That guy is a histrionic, obnoxious, used car salesman-type that has no business being seen or heard by anyone. Good riddance. Really made me want to see the new season, though.

It's funny that while watching some of the old episodes last night the one with Evans as the SIARPC came on. Everything he said was self-serving or boastful in some kind of way. Even the whole bit where he was auctioning off a chance to drive his ostentatious Ferarri collection reeked of peacocking. What a charmless twat.

blunt posted:Don't, the celeb bit is good now. That, and I'm pretty sure it has less overall screen time, at least the in-studio part of it. Towards the end of the CMH era, some of them were stretching on to 20 minutes of just boring-rear end interview. If they're getting close to that length now, it's because of an out-of-studio segment like the shed bowling, and a lengthy "news" segment at the beginning.

The new guest format is pretty decent. Because they talk to the guest for a little bit and let them drive. They also include the guest in discussion about the rest of the show. Plus they get to mess around with construction equipment with Matt.
