"Tiny Trains"

I've seen this exact same video about 5 other times. Women having trouble parking in a tight spot, can't do it because lol women drivers. Another person comes and helps and after a lot of maneuvering they manage to just barely fit their car in the parking spot. The person who helped then gets into one of the cars that was blocking the parking spot and drives off. lollll oh my god why didn't he just move his car?!

A while back I may have mentioned that I was going to be leaving my public school job and trying to get on at an international or a semi private school. Well, after a demonstration lesson and interview, one of the more established international schools in Hong Kong says that I have a job with them if I want. Now, the only problem is tomorrow I will be meeting the principal of a Brand New International School. I got this through a recommendation from my former supervisor. The school is charging 200000 Hong Kong dollars per year in tuition, has only 16 places per classroom, has student apartments because boarding is a great British thing that people want to emulate here, and their curriculum will mostly be based on mainland China.

Wait, WHAT?

I talked to an acquaintance of mine who runs a business for expats and their families coming to Hong Kong to try and secure a school place. She knows pretty much everything about all of these high in schools, so she explains that the senior board is run by a bunch of extremely rich Chinese businessman and Party associated officials. The house masters of the boarding section will also be the legal Guardians of the mainland children that their parents drop into Hong Kong so that they can comply with residency rules or something.

I think you'll find that actually its good how the chinese do community participation cooperation for many things that in the west (imperialist) we insist on doing "individually" and that doing it "individually" is wasteful and is the reason for so many environmental problems.

So, I've basically been in rear end covering mode all day today in work. Canvassing over a ton of e-mails and basically gathering my defense for the oncoming shitstorm. Whenever I have to work with my twin in HK, I make drat sure that anything said over the phone is followed up in e-mail, "Just to reiterate what was said on the phone we are doing: (bullet points covering the things we discussed). Everything copacetic?" Around mid day, in the middle of my usual work day drudgery I get a phone call from my counterpart. Mind you the difference in time is twelve hours and it might have been my frayed nerves but she sounded boozy.

"Hi this is Glenn."
"Hi Glenn this is Eustace (She uses some old timey persons name thats out of vogue in the U.S.) We have the numbers you needed and we worked all night for them."

I had to break to her that I straight up do not have any confidence in any of the numbers that her team provided last week and I'm not interested in them at this point but that I would recommend that her team use them over last years data ripped from me, and the team I worked for. It was dead quiet and then I got layed into royally. Mind you, we are not directly responsible for each others numbers and we merely are liaison to each others teams for communication purposes. So really, should could of divorced her from the China teams gently caress up and claim that she had no idea the numbers were lovely / falsified. But, no, in order to save face she blamed everything else on earth. Saying wildly dumb poo poo like I had given her my consent to use the old data, that I also commanded her to do so (her words) and that she was heart broken that we were such a good team and how could I be so duplicitous. I went into white collar professional mode and stoically told her that we are all on the same team and that we will figure something out. Of course I'm simultaneously getting all my poo poo together Mission-Impossible-The-Time-Is-Running-Out style. We sort of amicably get off the phone as she felt thoroughly satisfied and face-saved since I apparently capitulated by saying "we will work together on this."

I got two e-mails unread from her thereafter, like two mins off the call. Idgaf. I'm basically presenting my case to my boss tomorrow, who, by the by, was like -- I hear that some poo poo is going down with the HK team people are going crazy - are we cool? I was like no dude, we are so far from loving cool.

Meanwhile, Diktötter decides that clearly, this was a wonderful point in time and really, it just has a bad rep for ~evil communist~ reasons, where everyone is just taking the Communists at their word and have never really done real research into it, so it's time for some hot takes from him that are such a laughable amount of biased horseshit it's a wonder if he wasn't being possessed by the ghost of Chiang Kai-shek

Communism is the worst, most evil, most destructive idea people have ever had though.

If you've been to China and then HK or Taiwan, comparing them to one another and realizing things might have gone differently is the source of immeasurable horror.

China was turned into a nation of opium addicts by the pernicious forces of imperialist trade'. Narcotic Culture: A History of Drugs in China systematically questioned this image on the basis of extensive primary sources, showing that opium had few harmful effects on either health or longevity, that most smokers used it in moderate quantities without any fatal 'loss of control', and that the substance was prepared and appreciated in highly complex rituals with inbuilt constraints on excessive use. In a culture of restraint, opium was an ideal social lubricant which was helpful in maintaining decorum and composure, while moderate smoking was a vector of male sociability and social inclusion. Opium was also a medical panacea before the availability of modern medications such as aspirin and penicillin: it allowed ordinary people to relieve the symptoms of dysentery, cholera, malaria and tuberculosis and to cope with pain, fatigue, hunger and cold.
If opium was medicine as much as recreation, Narcotic Culture also provides abundant evidence that the transition from a tolerated opium culture to a system of prohibition produced a cure which was far worse than the disease.

Now, imagine doing that and it comes off wildly inaccurate and we lose a poo poo pile of someone elses (and our own money). That's why I'm freaking out.
