It's weird seeing my younger brother be able to recognize toxic masculinity and laugh at it as a flaw/shortcoming because me and my other siblings essentially served as role models during his formative years and now he wants to be a history major specializing in early 20th C and the interwar period by taking a sort of sociological look at how WWI altered the Victorian views of masculinity and patriotism and how people carried a blend of that flawed image and war trauma into the interwar period and helped precipitate WWII.

Augus posted:You know how feminists sometimes say that women's rights is better for everyone? this is also very much a part of it part of the wild poo poo happening in mens' spaces on the internet is because there is a generation of men that grew up with the idea that men were inherently the default, standard class but they came of age in a world where that concept is being challenged on a large scale there doesn't seem to be any philosophical or intellectual tradition to help them with that because there hasn't been an academic pressure to study issues of men because well, let's be real, when men are considered the default/standard there's no reason to study it outside of pathologies

at my community college i got a part-time job stuffing acceptance letters and i got a cubicle and would have a stack of hundreds of them and just put some netflix on the computer and stuff envelopes and take lots of breaks to browse the internet and i clicked a hidden meatspin link on a forum once right when some full time people walked by my cubicle and there is no way they didn't see a spinning penis but i never said anything and neither did they but so much shame was felt. that job was pretty chill though other than accidental porn
