Six then Yzerman, Shanahan, Robitaille, Larionov, and Draper I forgot Fedorov wasn't yet in management and erroneously had him on the list but he certainly could do no worse.

On the plus side if Detroit takes 40 more years to be really competitive again, then that might be around the same time the Avs do too. Would be nice to have that rivalry again.

Duchene is 26, signed for two more years at a reasonable cap hit, and is a very good player. Players of that caliber and age rarely become available, and it may be worth mortgaging the future for a handful of potential contenders. Just as a theoretical, pencil Duchene into Nashville's roster. Formidable on paper, key players at the right ages for opening the window, and their chief divisional rival under their foot. They've even got the cap space.

My point is, he's not going to get that price at the deadline and definitely not after the Wild and Caps made the seismic splash they made. He's a much better chance after the expansion draft or around the pre-season draft as teams start to look at what they have this year and what they think it'll take to get that far next year. Assuming they don't think Nolan Patrick/Whoever else is going no1 is going to pull an Auston Matthews. While I don't think the Habs are going to sell Sergachev at this point in time, I could definitely see them dangling Galchenyuk or Beaulieu's rights.

Lots of speculation that Tim Murray meets with team owner Terry Pegula today to discuss the state of the team. I hope a lot of people get fired, and that one of those people that gets fired is none other than Dan Bylsma

Yeah I've never been impressed with Bylsma since he got to Buffalo. I get that he doesn't have much talent to work with but it's not the 2013-15 Sabres where they had literally an AHL roster. His continued insistence on using Ristolainen as an all-situations 25+ minutes defenseman seems really bad.

I mean, Buffalo's roster isn't amazing, but they're nowhere near as bad as they play the majority of the time. He misuses players up and down the roster and puts virtually everyone in positions to fail. This is particularly true of the defense; I don't think they have a single defenseman whose performed better under Bylsma than they did before him. His system blows and he's boring as gently caress. I hate him and I want him to leave forever

Mind_Taker posted:http://www.wgr550.com/articles/news/sources-eichel-has-no-desire-sign-extension-if-bylsma-remains-coach drat, that's pretty rough for Disco Dan. He sure got lucky with his timing for coaching the Pens. I think they probably would have won the Cup with just about anyone but Therrien behind the bench, and in the following years it became pretty quickly obvious that he had no real system other "pray that stretch passes will generate unlimited breakaways and goals", which works well enough during the regular season when you have Crosby, Malkin and Letang, but does not work very well at all in the playoffs.

Why the gently caress would Eichel sign an extension this summer instead of after next when he presumably has another season solidifying himself as a top 20 C? Empty threat

I don't think we should re-sign Elliott, though. He slipped into the same bad habits that plagued him at the beginning of the season. That said, not sure what to do about our goaltending situation. The UFA crop is mostly butts, maybe Steve Mason or Scott Darling? I'm sure both would love to be the unquestioned #1 starter, especially after what that article said the other day about what Neuvirth and Mason thought about platooning. I'd like Chad back though, he helped Calgary back to the playoffs by playing well when Elliott struggled during the season. And it gives Gillies more time to adjust to being a pro goaltender. (Actually: Work a deal for something reliable and long term during the off season, probably using the expansion draft as added leverage) I could take or leave Johnson, tbh.

Thought the Flames would go further this year seeing how their advanced stats improved as the season went along. Does appear the goaltending did them in though. They ran a great hot steak when Elliot was locked in for the second half of the season, but the playoffs put the breaks on his game.
