why do these guys care about FPS so much? there's already a dozen amazing first person shooters out there, from sim to tactical to arcade. why do they care so much about shooting people in first person?

Because it's the only thing in Star Citizen's jank rear end tech demo that Elite doesn't have. Therefore it is better.

I'm still relatively young but in terms of FPS gamers I'm old as gently caress and it's odd to me that people in their 40's and 50's would be so excited to get their poo poo stomped continuously in a game with no matchmaking.

If it's any consolation, you're probably on a KOS list for every online game you play or will ever play. :D

They don't care about shooting people in first person. They care about interacting with their autism chariot in first person. They care about flying around and playing the role of Malcolm Shepard as they fly their starship Millennium Beepop around the galaxy. The primary draw of Star Citizen isn't that it's a game, it's that it's supposed to be some kind of immersive experience. You're not playing a space sim, you're participating in a First Person Universe. Elite is a game that features tight mechanics and a coherent design philosophy that covers every aspect of player interaction. The priority is providing high quality gameplay. In contrast Star Citizen's priority is the narrative. In Elite your character is a sterile, unimportant participant who has no impact on the uncaring galaxy at all. Star Citizen markets itself as something more immersive and player-oriented, that's designed to compel the player to play for one more hour because of how good the story is.

The problem is that the story was derivative and clichéd to begin with and has to deal with the insufferable amateurism of a visionary who thinks that jets in space is still a revolutionary concept for a science fiction universe and is so creatively bankrupt that he can't describe anything without referencing the prior work that he stole it from.

The vision wouldn't ever have been a reality anyway because the average gamer won't care about the dumb backstory you made for your dumb character and if you have something cool and there's a way to take it from you then it's going to be taken.

Sandi's? No, she was hilarious but has nothing to do with the actual game so I didn't really care about what she did. What did it for me was seeing CIG utterly and completely gently caress up CitCon and then fail to deliver Squadron 42 in 2016 like they said they would. I hadn't played the game since May, saw nothing that would make me think they would even change, and decided that I was better off getting over $500 refunded than running the risk of getting nothing.
