When I was playing Rayman Legends I loved playing as the viking girl with the battleaxe because hell yea viking battleaxe instead of dislocated hands for weapons. My mother saw me playing and she knew Rayman because she bought me the first Rayman when I was a little kid and her first question was "Why are you playing a girl instead of Rayman". This poo poo runs deep, it's so weird. Plenty of people got the same experience when playing femshep in mass effect.

Pretty ironic that a subculture of nerds that has a huge martyr complex about how they were never invited to cool parties or feel like they could fit in proceed to exclude everyone from their own subculture that's not them.

Something tells me this guy isn't smart enough to understand that conservatives only control Texas because of effective and widespread gerrymandering. El Paso especially is super blue.

The ironic thing about the gay moff lady is that, much as the media was talking up how it was a huge deal for Star Wars to have a gay character, she wasn't even the first. The first gay character who wasn't a result of a glitch in KOTOR (Juhani was supposed to be for males but it got switched by accident) was a big burly stay at home Mandalorian dude and his buff husband who went on adventures with Boba Fett. Imagine the insanity of outrage from these nutters if that was the new Disney canon's big announcement for diversifying the characters.

When my younger cousin was going through his 'ew, girls' phase he used to get mega salty if he got beaten by a female character in a fighting game. Because girls can't fight, apparently. This led to me exclusively playing as Sakura, and him boiling in rage between getting beaten consistently and not being able to stop playing because he wanted to show that boys rule and girls drool.

i almost always choose girls because i never consider the character in the game to be an extension of myself or part of me or whatever. They are just a character in the game and if I think it'd fit to play as a girl instead of Generic Roided Out Soldier Man, i probably do so also because Generic Roided Out Soldier Man is the norm, and the norm eventually got really dull... So picking "Generic supermodel soldier woman" is a nice change of scenery

Once men started moving in, women were immediately pushed out and now most famous programmers you know about are men. Now women have a hard time getting in the field period. The programming you speak of were basically switchboard operator jobs, and had little to do with programming as people understand it today. It consisted of physically carrying out mechanical instructions to set a machine to perform a set program. The engineers designing those programs and writing instructions always were predominantly men, the field never was friendly to women.

Like my stepfather. He was born in the 40's. So the kind of people he would hang with at work would be a pretty conservative bunch. He was (by his generations standards) Pretty tolerant on the topic of gay rights. In private his attitude was basically "whatever makes people happy. They're not hurting anyone" But if the topic of "the gays" ever came up during a conversation in a crowd in that very masculine environment. Then his response would be in the style of "Well I don't blame them, women can be a real pain in the rear end" Which would lead to grunts of agreement all around. And that statement sounds sexist but it allowed him to express support for gay people without starting an argument or disrupting the mood of the conversation.
