Like, seriously, Nintendo, you can bug-fix this already. We will not mind this. (Well, I won't...)

You don't bounce off blocks properly when you break them, it's more noticeable at high speeds.

They managed to mess up a single instruction that results in breaking blocks pulling you up instead of pushing you down. It's quite strange.

Adding to this, it also means that if you do it at a full clip, you'll bump into the block next to the one you just broke and immediately cancel all horizontal momentum. It's the pits.

The physics changes in SMB2 are really annoying to me. You get thrown back much harder in the All-Stars version when you get hit.

A few posts back I mentioned how I didn't care about the NES classic at all, but now I suddenly want one, which is too bad for me I guess. I do see that Famicom Classics are still readily available on eBay. I wonder how hard it would be to hack an 8BitDo receiver onto those. Are the pinouts for the cable pretty much the same as the regular NES controller? I assume they would be. Japanese UI doesn't bother me too much.

The Famicom Mini doesn't have removable controllers, they're hard-wired to the thing. It's probably got the virtual console connector pins internally where the controllers connect, but expect to need soldering if it's even possible.

I feel like this is just canon for SMB2 after the NES version. I haven't played it since release but I recall the GBA version the characters would get knocked back different strength like Peach would go flying while Toad was only a couple pixels.

I know others have spoken to the physics problems, but my deal is the whole "Wii version of All Stars" kerfuffle where they basically tossed All-Stars (sans SMW) on a disc and charged $20 for it. This would be a hilarious retread on that event.

That's because they're stuck being Famicom controllers that have to slot into the sides of the case.

I just pity people using it with the short hardwired cables.

I've never liked anything about All Stars. I hate what they did to all the music, I hate how off SMB1+LL+SMB2 feel, and while the visuals are technically more detailed I super don't like how rounded off all the SMB1 stuff looks and how SMB3 loses a lot of the stage play look. I have zero interest in a SNES Classic but I'd somehow have even less if one of the games on there were All Stars.

Maybe they'll put an official localization of SD3 on it for "never-before-released" marketing purposes.

All this talk of the SNES Classic and the supply issues of the NES Classic has apparently bled over into my dreams. This morning, I dreamed that I was at a Sears store, and asked "Flo" (from the Progressive Insurance TV commercials) to run an inventory check for an original SNES. In TYOOL 2017. And it took like, five real-time minutes in my dream for her to look through the printout to find one anywhere near where I lived, whereupon she told me to follow her.

And so I did, walking through the store, through a grocery store, driving out onto a highway, and finally arriving at a collection of weathered truck trailers hidden off of a remote, rural road. And lo and behold, Flo did deliver an original SNES (CIB) from one of them. And I was disappointed because it was a first model system, but I appreciated the effort and the journey to arrive at that point nonetheless.

What's the lesson from this recounted dream? Well, don't ever give up hope or lose faith - you too might find what you're seeking as a lark, aided by some D-level TV celebrity who knows where the forgotten inventory of a dying retail chain is haphazardly stored.

Welcome to America, land of ridiculous capitalism, consumerism, and K-Mart surrealism.

On the other hand, people in this very thread are apparently getting hype at the idea of Nintendo releasing the SNES Classic, despite the severe burn that the company gave them very recently with the NES Classic. It's almost Pavlovian.

First tweet says those were exchange disks for tech support. All the 3.5" look to be HD so I'm guessing those are PC-98 disks or maybe DOS disks depending on how recent. The 5" ones vary and are labeled for PC-88, PC-98, and X68000.

If those are all still working, the real rare disks in there are the Popful Mail copies and Sorcerian - Falcom stuff was published in droves during the 80s and had a pretty large install base, so Dragon Slayer and Ys tend to be pretty common.

This is cool too, White Witch got a PSP release over here, but that's a really nice CIB PC-98 copy:
https://twitter.com/nihonfalcom/status/855307699755466753

The Brandish VT demo disk is neat as well, really cool game that got an eventual PC/Windows release as Brandish 4. The Brandish games haven't made it to the West often, but the PSP remake of 1 did and is real drat good.

edit: Unless there is one of those pack-in music CDs somewhere (which I don't think Falcom did), I think they are calling that Brandish VT demo a Demo CD which is kind of cute in a clueless way.

My second strangest video-game dream is jealously watching someone picking over a flea market bin of NES games and pulling out a prototype for a never-released, never-announced game based on Operation Dumbo Drop.

My strangest had me finding a VHS tape labeled METROID CARTOON at a thrift store and calling all my friends and family to come watch as I popped the tape in a VCR to see what it was. It turned out to be crudely animated Metroid porn.

I've got a very ghettoly composite "modded" PC Engine I originally acquired from Acid Police forever ago (I attached wires to pins in back very loosely and keep meaning to clean it up some day) and a Turbo ED and it's super fun. I've got about 5 legit games for it I've came across over the years and it was totally worth it. RGB would be a total plus, but in my opinion it's worth it for Bomberman alone even via composite.

It's such a cute little console it really is.

I just searched my pictures folder for *pce*.* and found these 2 from 2014. Memories!
