Yeah I think the age isn't helping. IMO Panik, Kane, Hartman, and maybe Schmaltz were the only forwards that seemed regularly threatening.

I hate Joe Sakic the GM. I was a fan of the 90s and early 2000s Avs.

Drifted and now I just like good hockey.

could chicago have kept teuvo and bickell?

chicago didn't really make any deadline deals either. people poo poo on the vermette trade a while back because he sucked in the regular season but he put up 7 points in 20 goals, which is looking better than the hanzal deal right now.

it's been thrown around but it really does feel like we're in a new age of hockey now that chicago lost and LA didn't make it

I'm okay with any of Nashville, San Jose, Edmonton, or St. Louis going to the Finals, in that order.

Anaheim and FCP can sit & spin.

They did not want to get rid of Teuvo, but the Canes wouldn't accept Bickell (and his awful contract) without something to sweeten the pot. Bickell's play had been declining since 2013 (for reasons which are now quite understandable but not known at the time). I think they were determined to move him to free up some cap space for the Campbell signing. They didn't have much to offer in a deadline deal after getting Ladd/Fleischmann/Weise for the previous year, and given how none of those worked I imagine they were a bit more gun shy. They certainly could have used Teuvo and Danault this year.

They did have a first round pick, but all the beat reporters indicated that the ownership told Bowman that was not in play because they are hosting the draft this year.

At this point I really want to see a new team on the Cup.

Or an American team that would tell Trump to stuff it instead of visiting the White House, come what may. Either way. ... I know that first one is far more likely.

But you know, now that Not the Blackhawks is guaranteed, I have no real concerns or stress. I can just enjoy playoff hockey.

1 year 4 million left isn't really a terrible deal. I wonder if the hawks knew that bickell had MS then they could have forced him on IR with the promise that he could play in the playoffs, if he could.

They were capfucked and had to trade money away and they couldn't do that without trading a top 6 guy if they couldn't dump Bickell.

I think with the Kruger extension and Panarin's bonuses they had to move him right then and there, in addition to really wanting to get blue line help (Campbell).

Yes, but it would have been worse. Remember Bickell retired this season because of MS and it explains his rapid decline from Playoff Hero to Contract Albatross. They needed something to offer in addition to Bickell or no team would take him.

Vermette was a center who could win faceoffs. For a puck possession team you can't have only player above 50% and the next two under 40%. This was the role Mikael Hand-of-Zeus played in the 2013 cup run, and it was Vermette's in the 2015 run.

There's still the Ducks behind Getzlaf and Creepy Roary, and the Penguins with Crosby and Malkin, but if We get an Oiler / Leaf finals it might be a preview of things to come.

another game at nationwide arena. everybody keeps asking me if they can fuck the cannon. buddy, they don't even let me fuck it

Here lie the Jackets. They never scored, except those times this season where they did. I'd have been much more disappointed if they didn't at least eek out one win and be in contention for a second.

Much of the team will be back, with the summer-long concern being will they not suck in the first ten games again. So far, so good under Torts.

Congrats on your Calder Trophy Participant Award, Zach, as well as Torts' Adams and Bob's Vezina. Need to learn how to play good hockey after Game 82, though, :cop:.

Protect Saad/Foligno*/Dubinsky*/Hartnell*/Atkinson/Jenner/Wennberg, Jones/Savard/...probably Murray unless he's got bigger health problems than they thought in which case JMFJ, Bob*. Adios to Calvert/Karlsson/Anderson/Korpisalo (whichever of those four get claimed); please take Anton Forsberg, Vegas.

Love the "gently caress the Hawks" posts, doesn't change the fact that they have more Cups the last couple of years than your team has. :smugdog:

Hawks are in rebuild mode and might need to re-structure their team more than usual (it's a given with the Panarin bonuses eating the cap next year again). I am not ready to write off the core just yet, but some probably need to get used to a diminished role or get busy off-season training. I blame Toews decline on being on that Joe Rogan shilled Onnit crap. Go back to whatever he was doing before that and it should be fine.

Whatever happens, I've seen my team win two more Cups than I had hoped they would win in my lifetime, s'all good.

I don't think having Teuvo would have made a difference. I am still on the fence if the kid will ever develop to his potential, there's been grumblings of him not being too keen on off-ice training and just relying on his talent.

Sorry all I'm seeing is a -5 in 4 games (Hawks were a -12 in ES goals overall). So 42% of the ES goals against came with him on the ice so he's worth like -9% of the cap IMO.

I get that the $10 million a year contracts are for services rendered more than for continued production, but drat it would be nice if Toews and Kane looked like they gave half a poo poo out there.

The well is running dry and spending 27% of the salary cap on players that only occasionally perform like $10 million dollars is not gonna help anything.

I know goalie performances have ebbs and flows but man the Jackets really were out-goaltended pretty badly. I get that many of the goals Bob had no chance on but he really let in quite a few bad goals while Fluery somehow was solid, even if it did look shaky.

Luckily for Bobrovsky the Vezina votes are already in though. Also it's pretty funny that Torts is going to win the Jack Adams for the radical stratagem of having his goalie stop a lot of pucks while having Aaron Portzline write an endless supply of puff pieces about what a nice guy he's become.
