Congratulations to all the optimistic fans who cheered for MAF and the Pens, and those who cheered for the Rangers, including their defense. The Rangers are winning hockey games and I like it. Dan Girardi is shutting down Patches and that's great.

history aside, i really don't want the pens to face the caps in the 2nd round. the key to us beating the jackets was getting a 0.933 from MAF and Bob gifting us an 0.882. maybe we get lucky and MAF stays hot, or even luckier and murray comes back (please god), or even luckierier and Holtby stays at around 0.900, but i wouldn't count on any of these. and given how poorly we contained CBJ's offense, i'm not looking forward to seeing what kuzy, ovie, backstrom, oshie and playoff hero tom wilson can do to a letang-less D corps

Is Hagelin coming back for Round 2?

What about executing the Leafs' strategy of scoring a ton of goals when Brooks Orpik is on the ice?

Alzner's out again tonight. Schmidt has played well but I think it makes our penalty kill and empty net defense substantially worse. So don't take penalties you stupid Capitals.

He's not big or strong enough to handle some of the guys in front of the net that Alzner can. Otherwise I agree with you. There are certain situations where I'd be more comfortable with Alzner on the ice. He hasn't handled the forecheck well at all though.

When/if Alzner is healthy again he should be replacing Orpik, not Schmidt. Hopefully Trotz is smart enough to realize this.

Wondering if we're seeing the effect of teams adjusting their strategy to corsi as a stat. Its correlation to success was possibly relevant as long as it was an observe side-effect of some specific type of playing (i.e. good play was a cause of high corsi). The moment you adjust strategy to voluntarily generate more corsi events, you pad the stat without actual related impact on winning. Jack Han is starting to track the zone entries and exits with and without control of the puck in the rangers series as a metric, and it seems interesting: http://www.habseyesontheprize.com/a...ytics-breakdown
