Lmao. Spotted another asteroid base 2kly further out towards the rim from my current location; plotted 1000ly, then another 1000 when I reached the midway point... flew in to the system , "what the gently caress another Hell Port, this System is a cut & paste of the last one?!"

I flipped my map 180 degrees somehow at the changeover point

How are you finding these things? Are there any at all on the way to colonia? I could use a port stop.

I believe there are 'rest stops' on the main Colonia route now, but I'm just looking at nearby nebulae etc with the population slider up one step to only find systems with someone in them... once you're out of the bubble you can spot them fairly easily with a bit of zoom & rotate.

Do NPC ships ever appear sporting bodykits? I don't think I've ever seen one and they're missing a trick by not showing this stuff off to players.

Second'd, the paint jobs on NPCs are nice, but seeing role-appropriate body kits would be even cooler, maybe weighted by pilot rank too. Elite NPCs flying with riced-out body kits would be a cool way to visually reflect the top tier outfitting and engineer mods they spawn with.

Well. Just jumped into a system and landed between two stars that were sandwiched together, practically inside the first star I passed through. Cooked off a third of my hull by the time I was out and spent the next twenty minutes repairing poo poo.

Also learned the hard way you can't afms repair thrusters while in frameshift without dropping out hard lol. Just gently caress.

I got an 'F' in Geometry.
Equipped a Diamondback Explorer with some light engineering and one very lucky FSD 5 roll. Not fully optimzied (it has shields, a planetary vehicle, and A-grade thrusters and sensors), I still go 53.1ly per jump.

The legs on this thing are real.

So I'm being dumb and doing the community event in Maia. Something weird just happened to me while coming in to land at Alcazar's Hope: My computer piped up with a "Warning: Capital-class signature detected." There was a hell of a lot of noise but because I was too busy not smearing myself across the planet I didn't see anything. Anyone had that happen before?

E: I'm dumb apparently this is a thing that happens now and then

poo poo, I got a mission to go back to the Running Man Nebula and immediately noticed that a direct route from the bubble wouldn't work because of some permit poo poo. So I veered off into clean space, but as I'm getting closer, the route planner is failing to get in. Is this an impossible mission. How the gently caress can I get in here?

EDIT: The whole COL 70 sector seems to surround it and needs a permit to enter any of it. :sigh:

All the locked off systems can make anything around Orionis a pain in the rear end to do. What's you destination system? I think last time I made a run out that way there was one system I could plug in to the route planner and it would let me get in and out with no problems.

Did they do something to spruce up the game in VR recently? Textures look nicer and the game runs better.
Also i seem to have a data link scanner on my ship now. I googled it, but it seems like its a ~secret~ what it does?

I've used the data link on my ship, had to be ridiculously close, like 500m for a connection. They reduced the size of the window that is rendered on the desktop, not sure what other improvements went through. Seems a bit better than prior to 2.3, though I haven't played much before then.

I've read rewards are based on Explorer rank, the actual class doesn't seem to matter as much. I run a few of each on my moneybus stationed in Quince.

My mission destination is Running Man CQ-Y D16. I veered off into the SYNUEFE CG-H Sector and I've read you can get in through the Trapezium Sector, but I can't even get into that. Every which way I look I run into huge swaths of COL 70.

EDIT: I found a way into the Witch Head Sector, so I think it might be clear in now. I hope, anyway. Might as well stop off at Witch Head Nebula since I'm already going the long way around.

Also, for posterity, I think I'll post the "gate" I used to get across COL 70. It's at or near Witch Head Sector JI-J B9-0 which is where Witch Head and SYNUEFE seem to touch, bypassing COL 70. I have some cool pics from the other side that I'll post shortly.

Sadly, you got lucky and you're just as likely to get an instance with nothing but sidewinders and eagles as you've mentioned.

That said, having factions affiliated with the superpowers in system seems to increase the chance of faction combat ships spawning (e.g. Federal Gunships) and those usually have decent payouts since they're 'combat' ships.
You were right :( The next day I excitedly went to the same High RES and I was flush with Adders and Imperial Eagles again. At least they had some decent payouts. I managed to fat finger my "Silent Running" button again due to it being next to my chaff button and not realize it until systems started failing. Luckily the badguy was almost dead and he took the chance to FSD away. Had lost thrusters and was just tumbling in space with no life support, no guns, and no FSD and was quickly becoming queasy in VR as I was trying to figure out how to do this "reboot repair" think people talk about. I was toggling systems on and off to no avail and finally decided I was just going to self destruct before I threw up. Oh what's this menu option right above Self Destruct? Reboot Repair!

I also thought I was 9% away from "Dangerous" rank to unlock the engineer but turns out I was 9% away from "Master" rank. I thought it went Expert -> Dangerous -> Elite. ha HA boy was I wrong. So I have to kill another 500 ships? Is there any other way to advance combat rank apart from sitting in a RES for 100 hours hoping to get high-rank opponents?

You actually get faster rank killing lots of little Elite ships rather than low ranked big ships. Because of that, haz Rez are actually really bad for ranking up. You want to find a compromised nav beacon and just blow apart sidewinders and eagles.
