Once you get into high point games line ships start being able to delete escorts really quickly, because escorts take double damage from bombs/etc.

Yeah, but those deletions are resources that have to be spent to remove escort ships from combat and are on long coodowns. If Herp wants to keep launching in nebulae and grouping line ships for more manageable engagements, fielding a couple of escorts to draw out abilities or force different enemy approaches seems like a worthwhile strategy

What is that bear doing there?

Also not:

1) Ignoring ships.
2) Sending ships off alone to engage piecemeal.
3) Ramming at the expense of broadsides and other weapons.

(I'm enjoying the inevitable results, keep it up Herp!)

I would love to take ramming prows all the time. Some ships can't carry them, and I often have other priorities. I have set the Cobra class escorts to automatically target and engage enemy vessels, and the Cobra class spawning favor. Typically I do not use escorts, but at that stage in the fight they are fresh forces to tip the scales/a helpful distraction/really oversized missiles. I usually avoid escorts because of the risk associated with their death, a chance for actually important and strong ships to mutiny.

When setting up for your second mission, picking a world on which to fight Chaos, did you notice this?

When I saw that, I was sure you were going to go for it, but maybe you simply missed it? Hopefully your next turn you'll still have 3 deployments and can deal with it, but I'm worried that we're going to see "Remaining Deployments: 2" at the start of your next turn...

Edit: Okay, you didn't roll the 10% chance this turn. Phew.

That's where Micro-Warp Jump can help somewhat: in most battles it will only be useable once but the enhanced augur array on the Emperor gives it a stock 10k range, which is nothing to scoff at and would've allowed it to be able to participate in the interception of the final two Chaos ships, although given the positioning of the bombardment missions it might not have mattered.

Also I thought it'd be obvious given the number of times it was caught on camera, but bomb auto-casts have to be staggered because dropping 20 bombs in the same place means that the first plasma bomb going off will kill all the other unexploded bombs, wasting them completely. Sadly the AI does not know how to properly use bombs together, though it is good at placing them.

Finally any time a priority asset like that station is taking damage, especially from long-range lances, you need to use Brace For Impact. It really does help mitigate a lot of damage and if you aren't using any other special orders, you might as well use the one that gives a flat increase to survivability.

Taking a chance on losing his third deployment is better than losing his entire fleet to bullshit chaos flagships.

Still, it is an Assassination mission where he plays the attacker, so all he needs is to survive long enough to cram a few boatloads of torpedoes into the flagship to win.
Which is how I tackled basically all Chaos flagships on my playthrough: turns out that having average armor makes them especially subsceptible to Melta torps and any ship with 6+ fires going on isn't going to last too long, doubly so when it has an entire fleet focusing fire on it.

Which is another reason to use massed torpedo salvoes: ships with prow launchers can be fitted with Power Rams, will have to wait for the salvo to be off of cooldown and will be alredy pointed at the target. :getin:

It seems like you used the tactic that the eldar SHOULD have been using, kite everything to death.

Shame your ships couldn't heal to full overtime (wonder if there is a favor, upgrade that allows that), and it showed off how good ships are that can kite everything to death.

I dont know, the flagships typically were pretty easy for me. The Khorne one was kind of a pain, but most of the rest could be kited (nurgle) or just blown up.

My main strat was to set everything on fire, and then shoot it, and then ram whatever is still alive.

I refuse to use the melta torpedoes, since they were added in a multiplayer-centric patch and are just broken. That and I find it hard to kite Chaos ships that tend to be faster than my own.
