No, I mean go back exactly ten years to this art-style. Maybe they can keep their current jokes. Mierenneuker has a new favorite as of 23:17 on Apr 22, 2017 |

I don't know what it is about the Goblins comic, but I can't visually parse anything that's going on. I couldn't with the old style either. My eyes just glaze over and I interpret a smear of colour unless I make an active effort to interpret it.

bossy lady posted:I've seen these posted in multiple places and tried to read them. The dialog is unparseable drivel. I swear to god the existence of this dumb comic is an inside joke. I went and read a whole bunch of the Goblins webcomic a few days ago after people kept posting it in this thread and it's wall to wall roleplaying games injokes so if you've never played any RPGs a whole lot of it wouldn't make any sense. It also suffers really heavily from 'My-friends-are-so-wacky'-itis in that a lot of it seems to have been inspired by or is directly quoting the creator's own RPG experiences. Comics or novels based on people's RPG characters are the worst. The worst. It also starts out totally goofy and wacky but then turns pretty dark so we eventually discover that one of the wacky characters had been systematically raping and torturing one of the other wacky characters all along. According to the Wikipedia entry there's also been all the usual financial bullshit you'd expect from a popular fantasy webcomic that has been running for over a decade and relies on donations to survive. But I have to admit that "A group of low level monsters in an RPG decide to become player characters" was actually a great concept for an ongoing comic. Such a shame it disappeared up its own rear end so quickly and never quite recovered. Snowglobe of Doom has a new favorite as of 00:41 on Apr 25, 2017 |

I don't think I've been a Goblins comic for ages and the last time was in one of those old SA mega threads about bad comics (the ones with zalgo when that was vaguely newish and heaps of loss edits). At a glance it looks identical. I'm impressed it still has a fan base but there you go. Niche market for anything apparently.
