well maybe best individual fan, but as a group ehhh they have some kinda weird playoffs-loss PTSD that makes the home playoff games anxiety-inducing to watch

hah that's a neat story. Also it linked me to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disco_Demolition_Night

I guess I had some idea grown adults used to be so childish about musical trends but I'd tried to hide it. Maybe it was different when radio was the only way to get cheap music?

"Disco Sucks!" was an explicitly homophobic and racist movement.

Edit: sorry, I thought this was well known, but I forgot I'm older than everybody in the world. Here's some context. Let us never discuss it again. https://www.theguardian.com/music/musicblog/2009/jun/18/disco-sucks

All days are nights to see till I see thee; and nights bright days when dreams do show me thee.

The same people who were stomping their feet about "DISCO SUCKS" are the same people today who are mad that the USA dare give poor people health care or gay people marry or someone call themselves a man or woman. Disco came from the black and gay subcultures, and it was accessible by anyone. You didn't need money and the best music was coming from clubs that allowed mixed groups. I mean, some people just didn't like Disco and that's fine. But people getting real ANNNGGRRRRYYYYYY about it were mostly angry about integration and encroaching cultures they didn't understand/like.

Disco owns you repressed virgins.

Dokmo and Lockback are speaking the truth. It was a music invented by gay black and latino people and then commercialized to appeal to women and those who could move their upper and lower body simultaneously in rhythm. There are some good books out there that talk about how the aesthetic features of disco are inherently resistant to hetro-normative ideals. But basically its the idea that a bunch of overgrown leather jacket wearing honkeys were cheesed that their girls wanted to go dancing (which they hated and was for gays) and not spend the rest of their lives standing upright nodding their head to rock music. It emasculated them and became a symbol for integration and the erosion of honkey life.

I like how after Grease came out, they released a super edited version of Saturday Night Fever to get in on the same market. Our local video store (back when videos existed) had a PG version or an R version available. (Our R is roughly equivalent to NC-17)

Most fans I know don't hate Vince and he got a huge ovation I think during one of his returns. The only thing I still resent him for is wanting to live in Orlando. Like I get that his family is around there, and that he doesn't like the cold, but seriously, Orlando?

Eh, that would probably be a really boring finals. Like a gentleman's sweep at best. With as bad as Cleveland's defense is, I don't think even Lebron going super saiyan can save them from a full strength Warriors squad.

I'd say its 50/50 for fans that follow the Raptors, but we as Canadians are too polite to boo him too hard. Everyone knows he was one of the best players we ever had on our team, but there was a lot of people who believed he faked/overplayed his injuries before leaving town.

My favorite thing about Toronto crowds is them booing Camby for a decade after he was traded away, even though Camby had nothing to do with it, and was totally confused about why he was being booed.
