It oftens sounds like a morning zoo crew, and a lot of their humor is problematic to say the least, but they have some incredibly detailed episodes on the Aum Shinrikyo subway bombing, H H Holmes, Ed Gein, and more.

It's funny to me, when he goes on cumtown and tries to do the 'comedians bloviating about The Craft' trick when he bombs constantly if 'the crowd' isn't full of teenagers.

The McElroy Brothers would be better on Street Fight Radio than on Chapo given that SFR doesn't require either a lot of knowledge on academical matters and requirement of having to drill thru several layers of irony. (Also folk thinking that the Chapos would eat them alive are forgetting the interview with someone who praised The Federalist and like the David Hayter interview, even if that was on another podcast.)

Heck, that's what I show to folk when they ask me for something that has the same politics but doesn't have weird jokes about autism.

SFR with the McElroys would be great, they would spend 10 minutes talking about wearing a mustard shirt in public then 50 minutes on modern treasure hunts. Every time I think about introducing people to SFR though I stop because I know they would turn it off as soon as flat earth came up. I usually look for a good episode of DYA or This is Hell to recommend as a good jumping off point for folks.

Did anyone else hear Jon Lovett go full Chapo on Pod Save America's episode yesterday? It's a little frustrating how the other hosts don't appreciate any meaningful difference between Hillary and Bernie. His rants are the best and his own show, Lovett or Leave it, is pretty good. Vietor's show isn't half bad either since he gets to interview people that have been in some pretty high governmental positions. Favreau is just eh.

I have to say I did enjoy the episode of "Pod Save the World" where, fresh of his circle jerk with Ben Rhodes about Edward Snowden, Vietor interviews Glenn Greenwald and gets owned. It's pretty embarrassing that neither Vietor nor Rhodes had the most basic facts about who actually leaked the NSA documents to the public right and I haven't been able to take him seriously ever since.

I thought Jon Fauvreau could be saved, but he has no comprehension that the failure of the democrats might actually extend into policy domain! I guess according to him, the difference between Bernie and Hillary is just their tone of voice. Ugh. Even worse, on last week's Thursday show he took issue with how Shattered presented him. He acknowledged that while it is true that he felt that Hillary's campaign lacked vision and a compelling reason as to why she ran, he felt that the author took liberty with quoting him as saying that the campaign was just shuffling forward a lackluster candidate that no one felt crazy about in order to advance their own careers. Fair enough, he knows what he said, but he went on to say that "people never work for campaigns to advance their careers! They only do because they feel PASSIONATE about the candidate!" which is total bullshit.

The new book, Shattered, about the Clinton's lovely campaign even has Jon Favreau hilariously being tapped by the campaign to be a ringer for writing her announcement speech but left because he could see what a disaster it was.

quote:

Frustrated with the process and the product, Favreau dropped out about a week before Clinton stepped to the podium. As a parting shot, he deliver to Beneson [chief strategist] and Palmieri [Head of Communications] a frank assessment of the shortcoming of the operation and the speech. It was coming in way too long, lacked a central rationale for why Hillary was running for president, and sounded enough like standard Democratic pablum that, with the exception of the biographical details, it could have been delivered by anyone in the party. Beyond that, it was the product of a write-by-committee paradigm that never would have passed muster in either of the Obama campaigns. There was no strong leader runniing the show.

This entire election cycle was about libs being pushed to the left. The Bernie support wasn't just a bunch of socialists suddenly awakening. And post-election it's been happening more and more, even if there's still a cultish fanaticism around Hillary.

Lovett has said Bernie would have won a couple of times on the show and in one of his variety shows made jokes about how he can't disparage Hillary anymore because they are still angling for an interview.

Vietor has the big problem that he wants the parties and government to go back to the gentlemen's rules that was holding it all together. He is a straight centrist.

Favreau is pretty close to what a neoliberal would look like today in the younger crowd.

Pfieffer gives glimpse that he is closer to Lovett in the way he thinks about things, but doesn't want to lose that CNN job.

I like how Lovett rants about how the democrats will take inspiring popular things that people like and want to support like universal healthcare and $15 minimum wage and run it through a bunch of committees and organization to get to a technocratic compromise that they will present to people instead of the inspiring ideal, and then wonder why people don't vote for them. This is then immediately followed up by Favrau trying to come up with a technocratic compromise for what Bernie should have said in the Perez interview.
