According to the documentary film Talladega Nights, 98% of us will die at some point in our lives, so it is concerning that so many NBA players die

So basically this word salad is retelling us something that's been common wisdom among anyone involved in sports since the invention of modern medicine.

Bart Hubbuch, previously of the NY Post before getting fired for a tweet, put out a piece on Gambling, Robert Kraft, and the hypocrisy (GASP!) of the NFL on the matter. The Murdoch empire nixed the article and wouldn't publish it. It's a pretty good read.

Darren Rovell took the wonderlic test and got a 26. Below average for a reporter.

Rovell's follow-up piece is worth reading, he eats a fair amount of poo poo and promises not to release scores in the future. Still not the most self-aware and he was basically force-fed empathy but credit where it's due.

I'm surprised he didn't draw a line between being blind to the timer and assessing a quarterback's internal clock in the pocket.

So far the layoffs seem pretty targeted at specific beats on the site, so I'll be (pleasantly) surprised if their Professional Brandsman doesn't live to tweet another day.

His gimmick for the last decade-plus has been regurgitating Doug Glanville quotes, so I'm not surprised he was seen as expendable.

He's on Thursday only, with McShay doing the other two days. So I wouldn't be surprised if there's some kind of announcement on air on Thursday.

People aren't going to be more or less likely to watch sportscenter hits or the draft if Kiper goes. If it's cheaper to hire a few ex-GMs to fill those roles it's not out of the question.

BWV

It's sort of twisted. I remember when ESPN was hiring every journalist left right and centre. Eventually this probably led to a lot of other publications/sites losing some of their best people and causing them (in part) to become less viable businesses. So now that ESPN is axing them there are less places to go.
