Yeah, irrational is more like "people who really hate blandly decent webcomics for being blandly decent." Luann is actively promoting a bunch of really terrible people as good and pushing a bunch of honestly somewhat better people as trash.

Yeah, Shelley Pleger (the guest artist for this arc) does furry stuff, and Mike Curtis was best known as a furry writer/publisher (Shanda the Panda, et al) before he took over Dick Tracy.

Well, that's one way of looking at it. The other way is that, in the space of two years, (ugh) Buddyblog went from shooting "newscasts" with phone cameras about cat videos to being up for the television industry's highest award. That would indicate that in spite of Cindy's attitude, they're actually doing something right. But no, there must be another excuse...

This would work as a joke if this were Fritzi and Phil instead of being creepy because it's two little kids who are best friends. Well not the Fritzi and Phil of today, of course, but back when Phil was a goofy guy instead of Christian Superman and Fritzi was just an attractive single modern woman.

Basically this could have been a good joke if everything were entirely different is what I'm saying.

For what it's worth, Tove and Lars were just playing with Western clichés of the time (as you'll notice, if you haven't). It's not quite racism in the way of Tintin in the Congo.
