Well, there goes the Hall of Fame...
The space one has been entertaining, as long as you don't come across the Simon Says door in a team of maneuverable space belugas, and that you don't come across the shield-dropping green-dot locks on a team of squishy ships. I've had quite a bit of fun with using the Singularity Projectile console and the inverted Tractor Beam Repulsors on a maxed-out Control Expertise ship, while the rest of the team just keeps spawn--camping the ships by attacking them from behind the one respawn point their team gets. The map simply never ends that way...

The STO playerbase? Not jumping on a PVP queue??

No the PVP queues don't even work yet. (yes really)

This is the "competitive" queue where you have to outperform the other team. No actual PVP. Also very few participating players - seems to have landed like a lead balloon.

So essentially the glory days of Kerrat when everyone spawned on the same side of the map and one AMS at round start would essentially ensure your team's permanent domination?

No, it's basically two teams going through identical challenges on either side of the map, at the end they meet in the middle, and there you can blast the poo poo out of eachother.

Why can't we just jump straight to the blasting poo poo out of each other.

Now that Cryptic got them working again, arena queues are there just for that. Plus they feel a lot more fun now that the space revamp has fixed most of the unbalanced poo poo

I ran this once last night. My team didn't make it to the end of the corridor and we still got a fuckload of marks so I will keep running this queue until I can own a cape and probably the space set because the visuals look pretty good.

It's really hard manoeuvring a Vonph in that corridor, though.

Just wait until people figure out you get full participation rewards by farting around at the start and shooting the occasional NPC.

Both team will be doing this and nobody will finish. This is assuming people still queue of course.

Any recommendations for special requisition ships? I still have the Galor but I see it's been replaced by the Keldon now.

What's your budget? Do you enjoy cruisers, or are you looking to branch out into escorts or sciholery?

Nymix
Mar 3, 2013

Budget between 250 and 300, maybe 350 at a push. I usually just stick to beam cruisers and the like, but I could be persuaded to branch out. I have been leaning towards the Jem'Hadar Dread/ Escort Carrier since I've been rewatching DS9 but as I understand they still require the bugship to properly shine.

They do, which is unfortunate. If you want to stick with DS9, the Keldon looks OK and the JHEC looks pretty fun. Moving away from the show, the Tholian Tarantula and the Kelvin Intel Dreadnaught (the Vengeance from Into Dorkness) are both amazing broadside boats and should fit your price range.

Cheers - narrowed it down to the JHEC and the Tarantula. Tarantula appeals because I have the elite tholian fighter pet (don't know whether they're still good or not) but obviously, JHEC is dominion and that's pretty cool.

Tarantulas can run Mesh Weaver frigates, which are amazing.

Still have to have a mesh weaver to get these though. But considering they're a blue b-tier ship prize this is... significantly easier than a JHAS.

Seconding, the Recluse was a ship long before the Meshweaver was available for independent purchase.

The sad thing is is the Recluse was the first lockbox ship I had so I really should know better.

Finally got around to playing the new episode thing. It's ok I guess? I liked the cyberpunk themed city slum but there was a distinct lack of shiny black leather jackets.

Dialogue was... better than Kurland here I suppose.

STO's consistently had this issue where they come up with amazing concepts and backdrops and visuals, but then you get to the missions involving it and they're just... dry. There's no real tension, the antagonists usually have no presence or threat, the character motivations are shallow and twists predictable, and all that sort of stuff. I don't mean to badmouth the writers for the game since, as said, the core concepts and stuff are great, but the actual mission writing could be so much better and it's just a shame that it isn't.

It was a decent set up for a narrative but I think you're right to call it very dry in execution.

Are we going to do anything with this interesting looking slum and all the pollution from rampant capitalism in this setting ruled by a space communism utopia? Maybe tell some great stories here? ...no? Ok :saddowns:

I was a bit disappointed that the Lukari are still being written as these weird Mary Sue aliens, when there are heaps of unexplored races from the shows. The individual mission plots seem to be fairly disparate - I hope they're setting up for a new long-running plot now that the Iconians are done, but it seems a long way off.

Speaking of those guys, I'd love to see an episode showing what they're up to now that the war's over. Are they terraforming Iconia? What are the Heralds up to? You could also do the same thing with the Undine I guess.

Admittedly, a valid counterquestion would be, "What use would they have with Iconia in their present state?" After all, what self-purpose do the Iconians, their power structure, and society in general have with the restoration of their Ball of Everything?

Didn't the Iconians agree to gently caress off to another galaxy as reparations or some poo poo, except for that one that decided to keep fighting so Cryptic could justify using Iconians as enemies again later on?

I mean, I'd gently caress off to another galaxy if it meant getting away from Sela.
