I do wonder who the target audience is for expensive-but-not-high-end indian food in China. The indians in shanghai don't get paid that much (mayyybe more than locals but it's all call-center or IT vendor jobs so maybe not) so they arent really buying it, and most chinese people absolutely hate it. Naan is always outrageous in China for some reason, especially considering any kaobing stand will sell 3-4 things that are 98% the same for like 2 kuai a pop. My favorite Indian place here sells a naan basket for 31 kuai and you get 2 normal, 2 butter and 2 garlic naan which is better than most and that still seems a bit pricy somehow considering a whole curry is gonna be about the same price or a little less LentThem posted:Updating with a new urinal story from today My office shares a floor with a Chinese branch of a fairly large, multinational company and our bathrooms always had piss on the ground which lead a lot of expats to complain to the building, which then lead to the cleaning ladies coming to clean it it 4-5 times a day. Along with that, one time a foreign dude in my office made a sign in Chinese that basically said "Stand closer to the urinal and aim better, it's disgusting there's so much urine on the floor" and stuck it up above the urinals. After a day it disappeared but then it reappeared laminated and we found out the cleaning ladies did that cuz they liked the sign so much. It seemed to help but it might have just been a placebo effect.

Fauxtool posted:I wish they would add in chinese "this sign isnt in any other language by the way" I think people ignore signs like that since one of the main hobbies for the elderly here is putting up passive aggressive to straight angry signs everywhere. Every day it seems there's some new sign by the elevators in my building or near the gates of the complex with crap like "On X date we saw someone with this sort of dog not pick up their dog's poo poo......[5 lines of chengyus about cleanliness or whatever later] we hope we can improve on this and live harmoniously together". Often times people write their own comments on them in pen, so I imagine it's basically like an internet forum for these people. My favorite is one that appeared last week about having kids poo poo/piss outside in the complex cuz they added an English version as well and whatever translator they used just says "PLEASE STOP PEEPING AND DUMPING IN PUBLIC".

It's all on the Internet, I haven't seen a bootleg DVD place for years, the top floor of the computer mall still has them though I think? You still see people with 3 wheel carts going around selling music CDs though, I guess people still use those when driving.

One of my old coworkers went to this one that had lots of security and cameras and poo poo, the woman sold mainly to expats and thought she was in a James Bond movie or something. I've only been to one in one of the computer/electronics markets. You talk to a guy, who brings you to another guy, who brings you upstairs to this disused section of the building that looks like you're going to be murdered. Then he slides a random empty shelf aside and it opens the secret chamber with all the bootlegs.

That's rather odd. You normally see them getting support from the structure they are working on so each part of the scaffolding is only supporting itself locally especially that high. No surprise it fell over.
