It's been long enough that I can't remember if it would play imports or just copies, though. I know I had some copied import PSX games that would run on it, but they may have been edited to change the region.

So somehow this manual has all of its pages stuck together, more than just water damage, like someone spooged all over it or something. It's already pretty hosed up so I said gently caress it and steamed it. A few pages open up now but still another handful are stuck together. Any magic tricks to unglue/unspooge paper pages?

Always wanted to play some imports on it The easy solution is get a network adapter, plug a hard drive into it (using a special adapter or otherwise), and then plug a memory card in with the softmod program. Then you can install all the import games you like onto the hard drive and play them.

Throw it away Also only kinda retro: My Mario Kart 8 Deluxe shipment was delayed, so I played regular Mario Kart 8 instead and I used the club nintendo snes style wii classic controller. Holy crap that works well.

I did something dumb. I was at a flea market, walked by a big old box of nes/snes game boxes and an nes box. Like three minutes later I decided I regretted it, but someone scooped it up. I know there are some goons in the area (phoenixville pa) so I hope one of you got it at least.

I don't understand why you'd want to torture yourself playing 2D games on a GameCube controller even with the buttons mapped properly. It's the only Nintendo controller I can think of with a lovely d-pad too.

The majority of my stuff is hooked up via composite, but I know someone linked a good S-video to HDMI converter earlier in the thread. So I might try taking the plunge on that.

My options to play were with the keyboard or a Microsoft Sidewinder I got that same Christmas. Fire was spacebar, jump was Alt, and dash was Ctrl. When I tried to dash jump, I'd frequently minimize the window and go back to Windows. I never changed the controls because I was nine and content.

The PS2 version is indeed much cheaper because they did more than one run of it, and it's fine but some of the sound effects are a little off IIRC from the one time I played it. In general the Gamecube versions of game collections are a bit better/more accurate than their PS2 counterparts, though apparently it's the reverse case with Midway Arcade Treasures 2. But if you only want to play X and X2, which 95% of people probably do, get the VC versions, definitely, any of the 3. They're cheaper and more accurate. If you want Mega Man Battle & Chase, though...

Some TVs take S-video and/or component, which are way better than composite, but others don't take them natively and would require a scaler too. Get one and you can plug every console into it and then feed them all from that to any HDTV through normal HDMI. It really is *the* solution. It'll accept s-video or RGB or whatever you've got, and then output perfect HDMI. And it has options for all kinds of fancy effects and scanlines and stuff if you like those things. However, They cost $400+. So if you can't swing that, the cheap $40 scaler I linked before will do the job if you can get an s-video cable, and s-video looks much better than composite. There are some issues with the cheap scalers though, lots of people on amazon post that they got a bad unit and had to RMA it, and I myself went through a few brands that had horrible white smearing before I found that one that worked for me. But if you can't afford a framemeister, that's generally the way to go. Just want to really warn you going in, your mileage may vary with these things. Seems like pretty cheap components. All that said, if your TV does have the component video inputs (red, green, blue sockets; NOT RGB but YPbPr, which is what we get in NA) then that's basically as good as RGB and would let you skip buying an upscaler completely. But you gotta have a console that can do it, and the right cables. My PS2 is hooked up directly to my TV through component and it looks fantastic. My SNES and N64 go through S-video to the upscaler, and come out looking very good, but there is a little bit of interference that wouldn't be there if I had a Framemeister. I'm currently forced to hook up my NES through composite and so its going to be the next thing I look into improving, because man composite sucks.

Mostly if you have an hdtv that does take svideo it probably has a complete garbage scaler that will make the svideo signal look like rear end anyway. If you want to keep it simple your best bet is console S-video->amazon hdmi scaler->hdmi->your tv. The amazon scaler is at least designed with that job in mind. Standard def support on modern HDTV sets is an afterthought and done as cheaply (read: ugly and laggy) as possible. For instance on my old Samsung DLP tv, switching from the svideo input on the TV to the amazon svideo scaler out to hdmi on the same tv cut nearly 100ms of lag. Unless your HDTV cost 5 figures or is a professional broadcast grade unit, assume the internal scaler is junk.

Wait, what? Is there a way to fix water damaged booklets? My small collection of CIB Saturn/Sega CD games got damaged in a flood a few years ago and I've stubbornly held on to them. Been thinking about replacing or just getting rid of some of them but Dragon Force is pretty expensive so if I could repair the booklet that'd be swell oh dear some of these games went up in price, Mystaria, D, and, Panzer Dragoon 1 & 2 are a little higher than I thought why is Virtual Hydlide going for $40+???
