To be fair, I filed a claim on an obviously-selling-from-China seller on Amazon when my item never arrived (months ago, like last year, still not here and never will be) and I got all my money back and I never got a packet of anthrax or had any shady types following my car around town.

But that's Amazon, so maybe they have better buyer protection (hah).

With all of the dropshippers on sites like Amazon half the time even if you buy from a domestic seller they're just placing an order on Aliexpress for you and charging you more money for the privilege. Screw those guys and dispute them the second things go wrong.

I've never left bad reviews, but I've raised mild hell over things before. Not things like bags having black beads in the pic and brown ones in my mailbox, but like, I ordered some necklace settings once, and they came with a mysterious, clear, odorless liquid on them. No clue what it was.

The seller was just like "rinse em off" so I did. They turned funny colors where the liquid had touched them (more due to cheap metal than anything). The seller was like "spray paint them" and I put my foot down.

Another seller sent me earring blanks with bent posts. They were all "just bend em back" NO THAT WEAKENS THE POSTS I AM AIMING FOR THE HIGHEST QUALITY OF CRAP COSTUME JEWELRY HERE

I've bought a lot of things from aliexpress. Usually the $1-3 range like everyone else. Everything has always arrived so far.

One time I ordered something on a PCB but one of the capacitors had broken off in the mail. It was a very clean break and I considered soldering it back on but that seemed like a lot of effort and it was a pretty fine task. I just sent the seller a picture and they just mailed another one. Never used it in the end.

My experience with a genuine scammer named, "Ting Ding" actually gave me more trust in buying from aliexpress though. The item was ~$29 and I figured it was worth $150+ but they were also throwing in free DHL shipping. So it's not like I wasn't going into this without a good dose of skepticism about what might arrive.

I read the first message and thought it was suspicious, so didn't reply or open the dispute. There was a Chinese Post tracking number. When I read the second message I was wondering what the obvious scam is here and how I would proceed. By the time I had read the third message though, I already had a message from aliexpress saying they had refunded me and cancelled the transaction due to suspicious behaviour by the seller. I hadn't replied at all or messaged aliexpress.

The scam it seems is that if I had opened the dispute for $5 compensation, they would have refunded $5 and it would have closed the transaction and left me unable to open another dispute. No idea what the process would have been, but probably a lot more awkward to get a refund after waiting all the time for a Chinese Post parcel to never arrive. Especially since the dispute would have closed the transaction much earlier than the usual time-frame.

Wasn't a hard fix, they just had extra clips on the cartshell instead of the actual screws, yours probably does to. Then my roommate actually already had some extra batteries sitting around he let me have.

Yeah the cart battery thing is due to increased shipping costs with anything that has a battery in it and a lot of sellers cut costs by not including them

I heard what I thought was a mid 20s woman behind me talking about porn and I turned around to make an off color joke and it was a nine year old boy so I turned back around and he immediately changed the subject to his fidget cube collection. He was saving for some overpriced overengineered tungsten custom fidget cube and well who would've thought today's kids are suffering from a lack of constant animal brain stimulation, anyway I've got one for each hand and foot and I dont fidget at meetings or look at porn anymore. Thanks kids.

The spinners started out as people 3d printing a case, putting a skateboard bearing in it and selling them on Etsy for $30.

Then someone in China saw them, made an injection mould and here we are...
