It's more about the screen illuminating and being a distraction than the sound.

Right, I understand that, it was just weird to learn that people exist who don't have their watch on silent. More tangential to the feature than anything

Look on the bright side.

I'm happy theater mode is a thing now. I'm fidgety when watching movies and it annoyed me when the screen came out so I'd have to hide it under my sleeve.

My watch makes a noise and I prefer it. I don't have crazy notifications so it's not constantly going off. For an optional feature you sure sound hurt over it. I bet you also take offense to country music and people with Bluetooth headsets too, just cuz

Did the watch always have a notification noise? My S0 Stainless makes a really quiet *ding* that's easy to miss 90% of the time, but my S0 Sport doesn't make a sound at all and never has.

Yep they all do it and you can set the severity. At the low level, you can't hear it unless you're in a quiet place. On full volume it's pretty drat loud imo

In any case, the ding is a totally irrelevant function because the haptics are far superior at the exact same job that the ding is meant to perform, while not being annoying to those around you, and without alerting everyone within 15 feet that you're wearing a smart watch.

I consider it more of an accessibility feature than anything, in the same way that the watch has a wheelchair mode (in the sense that it's available for people who need it, maybe they have some degree of nerve damage or a prosthetic limb and aren't able to feel a haptic notification, etc). It has no functional reason to exist for people who can feel haptics.

Yeah, the point is that you are wearing something on your skin that provides haptic feedback so the ding is completely unnecessary. It is kind of counter to the whole seamless notification/not pulling you out of your real life for your digital life thing.

Does Dark Sky just straight up not work anymore? It was acting up a lot for me the last few weeks and since 3.2, it's not even showing up in the Watch app as a complication option. I don't know what else to use. The stock weather complication sucks. People recommended WeatherBug, but it doesn't have a big complication for the middle of the screen.

Sometimes apps get turned off in the watch app on your phone. check that, and if it is on, turn it off and then back on.

The Dark Sky complication has never worked right for me. Constantly shows old, out of date weather, or shows rain when there is none in the local area. Switching to Carrot Weather (which gets it's info from Dark Sky) fixed all that for me.

It's there. It's listed under complications. I even uninstalled and reinstalled it on the watch. It's showing up on my watch when I go to the app screen thing. When I go to the modular watch face it's not in the complication list on that though.

While typing this I "fixed it". I added a new modular watch face and it's an option on that. I have no idea how my one specific watch face could get hosed up though?

I just want through this an hour ago. Deleted from phone downloaded, set as complication and then works again.

Amassed some Best Buy gift cards recently trading in some stuff and decided to replace my busted screen original with a Nike one as a birthday gift to myself. Figured if I'm gonna spend $100 more for a S2 I might as well get a new/different band and extra watch faces out of it (and a color for other faces! Volt is pretty good).

Took a chance on "open box - excellent condition" for $367, pretty much the only sign of use was the watch charge cord not being perfectly coiled like new. I was paranoid about warranty, looks like this was originally bought and activated last month, and is still within the AppleCare registration period.

I need everyone to know there's a bug with personal touch, specifically sending your heartbeat. See, I remember Apple saying at their presentation a few years back you can send your actual heartbeat to someone. I tried sending it with an elevated heart rate and found the preview it gives you of your heart rate does not match your actual pulse. I felt very betrayed and thought Apple had lied to us all until I opened Messages and saw the actual thing. The personal touch in Messages does beat at your actual heart rate at the time of transmission.

Does anyone else have an issue with their watch randomly restarting at times? Mine has done this 1-2x a week to every other week, from full battery to half, no real consistency. Usually it's when I go to press a complication and poof, the Apple logo comes on. It's out for a minute or two, and then jumps back to whatever I was doing.

I live two hours from the nearest Apple Store, so I'm more questioning if I should do a reset first, wait a week and see, or ask diagnostics via AppleCare.

I had one happen the other day while navigating. Switched to another app then boom. Navigation taps still were coming through while on the Apple screen so I guess it was like a springboard reset on iPhones? (Where it's not a full system reboot but a UI crash)

I had a bunch on my previous watch for a while but I think they went away with either a wipe/restore or software update.

Any recommendations for a workout app that tracks weights/strength stuff? I use the standard app for cardio stuff but it looks like I need something more specialised.

Strong is pretty good. You can load workouts to the watch and edit them on the fly as you work out

I've looked at the Apple Watch quite a bit recently but I'm not sure there is really anything to make it worth buying? My dad has one that I've played around with a bit, and it seems neat, but nothing about it seems any more than a gimmick, and I'm not sure I want to pay $400 for a gimmick. I've got a Fitbit Charge 2 that basically suits my needs, but the wrist band is starting to get hosed up. Tell me, goons, what are some of the super cool and life altering things I could do with a $400 wrist computer?

I think if this is the mindset you have going into it, then you will be disappointed. I enjoy the hell out of accessing texts/alerts and looking at my calendar without having to have my phone on me. (I spend a lot of time jumping between different meeting rooms for calls with different clients and often leave my desk on the phone. It's also pretty convenient to just flip your wrist to know when your phone just buzzed. That isn't exclusive to the apple watch, but it's a really nice hardware design and the OS is really snappy.

Yeah, I agree with the guy above. If the good smartphone is the luxury car, the Apple Watch is more like the leather seats and sun roof package. They won't change your life, but they can be nice to have. Fitness tracking, notifications, texting, directions, and even something as simple as alarms on the wrist are by no means necessary but they are really really convenient.

I bought one specifically because I ride a motorcycle 1) gps functionality is great 2) having a few apps alert me of weather changes is awesome on the fly.

I use it daily as an extension for my phone, including paying for things, but this isn't a need to have gadget. If you're having a hard time justifying the cost then likely it's not a worthy expense for you.

It's a slow burn of convenience perks to me, mainly text/notification mirroring and GPS turn by turn stuff. Lets me effectively mute my phone without missing notifications. It's also a watch.

I bought mine impulsively as a tech geek, and had a bit of buyers remorse in the first few weeks, but now I really appreciate it.

It can be had for as little as $250 for a 38mm Series 1, which has the same internals as the Series 2 minus the GPS. It has less stringent waterproofing, a screen that doesn't get quite as bright, and a lower quality speaker, but none of that matters to me and you can gauge accordingly.
