How the gently caress is it essentially brand new and professionally maintained if it needs a "cylinder new top end?" For that matter, what the gently caress does it matter if the valves are in spec if it needs a new top end?

Check out these videos, it only takes the guys at rmatv twenty minutes so it'll probably take you six weeks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ns3lG18imzA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OPF1sUTw7w For example, look at those washers 5:30 in. Super easy to drop those into the engine and just not tell you about it. I think it's a fine project if you want a project but if you're just looking for a really good deal I think it's always worth it to spend more and get something that doesn't need to be fixed because you're going to end up spending a lot more time and money than you think. But in terms of mechanical difficulty, watch the videos - it's not that hard as long as you feel comfortable doing all that stuff (or learning to do it). The brand new part is ridiculous and dumb, but this could be really bad or not so bad.

It sold in a matter of hours. Which is fine, because I'm not sure which would go over worse with the S/O: a running, more expensive bike or a cheap as gently caress bike in several boxes. Gonna keep looking.

I don't know how someone pays this much for work on a metric cruiser. $500 so some greasemonkey can take two hours putting $40 worth of parts in a carb?

It's a good thing he doesn't own a Goldwing. A rebuild on those carbs is easily $500 in parts alone. He'd probably have to take out a second mortgage to cover the labor.

With people like that, I wonder if they are aware that there are companies that mass produce VTwin motorcycles in whatever configuration they want, and that used examples sell for less than they have into their build. But then I see "Columbus, GA" and it all makes so much more sense.

Not quite. Most cruisers have old school air cooled vtwins. What if I want a Yamaha Warrior but modern v-twin? Or lets say a GV650 but not made by Hyosung.

https://jacksonville.craigslist.org/mcy/6082485293.html What're the chances this is actually a valve problem? The maintenance interval for this generation was 15k miles, and 18k seems too close to that to be showing starting issues. Looking for a flipper to buy me a nice SV disclaimer: None of my bikes have ever needed an adjustment at the suggested maintenance intervals (usually a few thousand miles after), so I'm basing my question on that. Not sure if these engines would be similar, but I'm finding posts online of people reaching 25k before needing to touch them. AncientTV fucked around with this message at 19:38 on May 10, 2017 |

Yeah if the valves are causing the engine not to turn over it's because they're hitting the pistons.

Sure. Early Harleys were side-valve instead of overhead, and there's no interference on a 2-stroke
