I'm very much under the impression that the Count doesn't have much in the way of rotary-wing assets, and I really doubt he's got enough to pull off an aerial offensive.

The Count is inspired by our grandiose plans for aerial assaults but ultimately believes them to be beyond his troops. His soldiers excel at bush warfare, hiding in the steppes and valleys, striking out against a less inspired, but better equipped foe. Riding in old MI-8's, a leased cargo plane, and a dream, is beyond them. In his own words, "These are not US Rangers, but Mbeke Rangers!"

Going be annoying again and ask that land-strike planners make sure we're not left completely vulnerable to an amphib assault behind our lines. Detection shouldn't be an issue so long as we occasionally check out the western coast, since landing ships are slow (unless Dos Santos uses ekranoplans (OH GOD LET'S BUY SOME EKRANOPLANS)) and our recon is so good. The harder bit is to make sure some naval strike aircraft are available within a "reasonable" amount of time before they could get to our coast - ie not needing to take three hours to switch from "warcrimes" to "anti-ship" loadouts. I'm not saying that we have to have ~our precious~ *gollum* Gripens mope around the tarmac with ASMs all day, just maybe stagger sorties a bit and make sure that some of the strike loadouts can also be used against shipping (without having to go right up on them and strafe like it's WWII). I'm not groggy enough to figure it out but I'm sure lots of the land strike munitions on the various planes can (safely) put holes in botes too? Just asking that they be available in case somebody tries to get smart on us.

Also the Angolan navy is apparently fully tied up in anti-piracy operations. And it takes some really specialized equipment to land stuff amphibiously without a port.sparkmaster posted:Honestly do cluster bombs work at all? Would they be more effective against grouped ground targets then our paveways? The big issue with cluster bombs is that the do their damage as, say, 150 counts of 2 DP evenly spread out, while a normal bomb does one shot of 200 DP with a dropping radius. So a shot on a relatively small target like a ship is likely to miss with most of the individual bomblets. They mostly shine when used against big, flat targets like runways, but you have to check the bomb type first, because runways are considered armored targets and some bombs will just bounce off. Operation Care Package We're going to split our op force into three parts in order to hit more strategic targets. I'd appreciate any tactical insight. Audacious Flight 4x Gripen 4x Tornado 2x Mirage 1x Prowler 1x Reaper Bold Flight 4x Gripen 6x Phantom 2x AMX 1x Sperwer Clubfoot Flight 5x SK60B 1x Frogfoot 1x Hawk Our tankers and AWACS can join in with every flight. ROE If an SA-11 is spotted, cease operations and attack with one Gripen firing SDBs, following with the second (and third for Bold) if the first fails. If the target remains, proceed with the rest of the mission outside its range. AA Gripens should maintain Ready 5 when not on an active mission. When we get the call on the Kfirs, activate Plan Judas. If you have more bogeys then missiles, run away. Disallow the use of guns. Attack Radar OFF unless you need a firing solution. Jammers always ON. Avalanche attack - 0700 Audacious - SEAD 2x Gripen A/A Intercept (220 nm): 4x RB 107 Meteor (75 nm) / 2x AIM-2000A (15 nm) 2x Gripen Land Standoff Strike (530 nm): 2x AIM-2000A (15 nm) / 8x GBU-39/B SDB (60 nm) 2x Mirage Guided Bomb (350 nm, Day Only, Clear Weather): 2x R.550 Magic 2 Mk2 (10 nm), 4x GBU-12D/B Paveway II LGB (4 nm), 1x Barax NG DECM Pod 2x Saudi Tornado ALARM (950 nm): 2x AIM-2000A (15 nm), 5x ALARM Blk 1 (40 nm) 2x German Tornado HARM (820 nm): 2x AIM-2000A (15 nm), 2x AGM-88B HARM (70nm) 1x Prowler HARM (550 nm): 1x AGM-88C HARM (70 nm), 4x AN/ALQ-991 ECM Pod 1x Reaper Recon (1600 nm): 2x Gorgon Stare Increment 2 Sensor Pod Clubfoot - CAS 5x SK60B Rocket (375 nm, Day-Only, Limited All-Weather): 12x M/70 135mm Rocket (2nm) 1x Frogfoot Anti-Tank (210 nm): 2x AA-8 Aphid (5 nm), 16x AT-16 Scallion (5 nm) 1x Hawk Anti-ground: 2x AIM-2000A (15 nm), 2x AGM-65G Maverick IR (8nm) The Reaper, Prowler, AWACS, and Stratotanker will orbit just east of the airfield. Priority order if still standing - southern radar installations, Caimbambo FOB, the military base at Balombo. Plan Judas Assess - is there an active enemy radar installation between the Kfirs and our borders? If so, tell them "Good luck assholes" and continue with operations until that's no longer true. Divert AA elements from any running operations to escort them. Scramble AA Gripens from Lubango and the VC10 at military speed to intercept them. Warn off Free State planes, then fire if they persist. Once under escort, the Kfirs are to drop all ordinance (into Dictator forces if possible) and proceed to the nearest friendly airbase under escort from the scrambled Gripens. Put a missile in them if they start looking squirrely. Scrambled Gripens will RTB and any active operations will proceed. Added Space fucked around with this message at 19:32 on May 3, 2017 |

All personnel, be advised. We picked up some new intel talking in the discord. The Free State, tightwads that they are, didn't bother to pick up Mirages with night strike capability. That means that that strike, and the accompanying Kfir Defectors, will launch at some time between 0700 and 1900.

I think there are probably two pretty plausible options: make a push towards lobito to gain control of the port or push towards Mulango to try and seize the two lithium mines. I like Mulango because it feels tactically easier, but it has the serious downside of vastly shorting the dictactors front lines. If we want to try and seize Lobito, it's clear what we need to do: SEAD missions to unpick the air defences, then rotating CAS strikes to bomb the tar out of everything behind the Count's new armored capability and the port facilities. The tactical downside is the Kfirs probably don't make it. Cthulhu Dreams fucked around with this message at 03:15 on May 2, 2017 |

I'm going to point out again that destroying the Luanda oil refinery will also destroy the nation's fuel reserves. That's a knockout blow for a war - they'll be operating without jet or tank fuel. It doesn't matter what they hire at that point because it'll be stuck in its box. This is a chance to prevent the war from skidding to a halt under endless Lithium funding, and we'll never get a better shot at it.

Inspired by Beer4thebeergod, I made another map for you folks. Beer, I worked off your template, thanks! For those of you with CMANO, there's a planning scenario. It has things you know the location of like staging areas, bridges, power stations, etc, but not all of them. For others there's a Google Map you can do a COPY MAP and draw your own squiggly lines on it. For those who really want to blow up the Angolan Twinkie Factory or what you perceive as some awesome military objective, just ask. The refinery photo in Added Space's proposal is perfect. I don't know everything, not by a long shot, and any help you guys give me goes a long way to making an exciting mission. I have a general guideline of a plan, but cool ideas lead to cool missions.
