He won't do that because he just want to do as much as he can to benefit capital and that's not sexy to voters.

That was a very fun May Day in my small city, we were blasting music, dancing, making fun of trots and the police. For some reason the Turkish/Kurd Communist Party was there, with a banner featuring comrades Stalin, Lenin and Mao and that was uh... weird to say the least. Not a single incident to report, except now I can't stand hearing the Internationale. No wonder Bakunin left it.

Were any of you French Goons at République today? I know poo poo went down and that it was horrifying but not a single paper approved by Le Décodex is reporting injuries on the protesters' side, and I'm still waiting for reports from independent sources.

At this point he's looking people in the eye and telling them the Loi Travail will fix everything. He doesn't give a gently caress thanks to the Front Républicain. He will be President but he can't be Sadi Carnot-ed soon enough.

Nicolas Sadi Carnot was the son of the great Lazarre Carnot, the organizer of the victory (Valmy), a really big deal in the French Revolution. His nephew, Sadi Carnot, became president of the 3th republic and announced he wouldn't present himself to the post again in Lyon just to be murdered by an Italian anarchist a few minutes later. Kinda a big important family that didn't survived the 19th century. So expect what you want to expect but i don't know who he is trying to convince by calling up the name of one of the most republican family in France.

It's not entirely clear in the embedded tweet, so I'll type it out. Second round voting intentions for supporters of defeated first round candidates are:
Fillon: 49% Macron, 25% Le Pen, 26 % No Stated Position
Mélenchon: 47% Macron, 19% Le Pen, 34% No Stated Position
Hamon: 76% Macron, 5% Le Pen, 19% No Stated Position

Can't help but note that the numbers for two of those groups are very similar.

Macron bullshit "not left not right" position is unattractive to both side, also anti-lepenism is getting seriously weaker. Macron's constant insistence that most people are voting for him because of his program, not because he is everything but LePen and that STRATEGIC VOTING nonsense, make him looks like a lovely conman who just stole the presidency in a glorious accident but don't have the patience to build something. I fell like terrible poo poo are going to happen to him and his naive supports. We could have terrible parliamentary results and those fuckers are already drinking the victory champagne.

They were utterly wrong and misinformed, Hollande was a neoliberal centrist and Macron was the Minister of the Economy under him.
So it turns out the French electorate is not repudiating Hollande at all, even though his popularity is very very low. But the package is different so they'll gobble that poo poo up lol

Macron's success seems completely situational, and a result of a meltdown of the PS/Fillon. He was polling much closer to 14-15% before Fillon collapsed, and a fair number of L'R voters went over to his side because Fillon is dirty as sin. Also he was also to pull from PS which simultaneously went more left-wing but not left-wing enough and more or less has "PASOK'ed" itself. He was able to triangulate the situation enough where he could capitalize the center.

Now he is in the second-round and is facing Le Pen, who simply doesn't appeal to a majority of the population (although that gap is slowly slipping).

Basically, he literally has won this thing by default because his opponents are either too dysfunctional or extreme to through the electoral process. I don't know how many voters are even happy to have him around beyond he is more appealing than Le Pen.

May can't do anything sensible before the election, because otherwise she loses votes - even though there is no functioning opposition in the UK at this point. Her best bet is to win the election by a wide margin, thereby ensuring that she has an majority large enough to protect her against hardcore Brexit backbenchers taking shots at her during the actual negotiations. You see for most people in power, from May to Trump to Kim-Jong Un their first priority is not the well-being of the population, but to stay in power, a goal that is not always aligned with the well-being of their people.

Mélenchon got some amount of poo poo for not jumping behind Macron right away. Instead, he launched a poll amongst France Insoumise supporters, asking what they think he should do. The choices were either back Macron, putting in a blank vote, or abstaining altogether. Well the results are in, and you'll never guess what happens when neoliberals try condescending and insulting their way into a coalition with the left!

https://twitter.com/MarianneleMag/status/859425347187724289

The caveats are, of course, that this is a poll of around two hundred thousand supporters, while Méluche got seven million votes. But it's telling of the fact Macron isn't even bothering to pretend he wants to do anything other than using the poors as fuel for the crushing machine of capital, if only to get as big a lead on Le Pen as possible. Almost as if neoliberals would rather insult socialists than fight fascism. Huh.
