Crosby injury aside, goddamn that was a really good game.

The speed and skill of those two teams is incredible to watch after having slogged through the B's/Sens opening round.

Yeah if this were the final then maybe but if they do win the cup they'll have to win two more series and this will be a footnote at best.

No there wouldn't be. A cup is a cup. I bet it's rare that a team doesn't go through another with some sort of injury issue en route to one. It's part of the game. Now if the hit was blatantly dirty or something, maybe. But I didn't see the hit so I don't know.

It was bang bang, not intentional at all. Crosby was falling over as the other player (because I'm too lazy to look up how to spell his name, starts with an N and is long) was skating over and Crosby ended up getting the shaft of the stick to the head. In real time, sure, I can understand why they called a major and a game penalty, in slow mo it was clearly unintentional and that's why there's no further punishment.

Also, the righteous fury over the star getting hurt in a clean play always tickles my schadenfreude button.

In news that came as a shock, at least to me, US TV ratings for this year's playoffs are actually up compared to last year.

I'd like to think this means NBC/NBCSN will be jacking off over Chicago a little less, but then again I'd like to think a lot of things.

Ovie slashed Crosby so hard that his 130 flex stick looked like a spaghetti noodle, then Niskanen cross-checked him in the head as he fell. Was it dirty? Playoff hockey, friend.

FWIW Niskanen said in the post game presser that he wasn't trying to cross check him "that hard"

as has been covered numerous times already, he was trying to give him a shove which is standard operating procedure for players who are in front of the net and his head rapidly declined into the area niskanen's hands were, which is extremely obvious when you watch the video

Well, since I was there and saw it happen, the slash knocked him over, and the cross check that Niskanen himself admitted happened as he was falling. So, sorta?

Niskanen's crosscheck was very clearly intended to be one of the mild mid-back shoves that everyone gets and gives near the crease. Crosby happened to be falling because he was slashed.

Kinda wondering why Sullivan keeps giving less ice to the Schultz/Cole pairing than Hal Gill 2.0 (Hainsey) and Dumoulin. Ideally they'd just split Dumo apart from him and pair him with Schultz but it's probably too late for that.

I had a similar thought in the GDT, it's kind of like an infinitely lovely recursive loop or something...

"Man, Hainsey and Dumo look slow and poorly positioned out there, they really need to be sheltered...

...but that would mean playing Schultz and Cole more, which wouldn't really help, so I guess we could maybe bump up the icetime for our other pairing...

...poo poo, that means we'd have to put Maatta and Daley out there longer and those two are total fuckin liabilities right now. Sullivan, you fool, put Hainsey and Dumo back out!!!"

I haven't looked at any stats, but from the eye test it seems like Maatta and Daley are getting walked and coughing up turnovers on a never-ending basis. Jultz has also regressed back to firmly mediocre levels, though maybe his goal the other night will boost his confidence. None of Hainsey, Dumo or Cole have really stuck out to me as particularly good or bad. I wouldn't mind seeing Ruhwedel or Streit get a look for Game 4

The Schultz Cole pairing is the only one (ever so slightly) above 50 cf% when you adjust for score, venue, and zone starts. I'll take them all day over Hainsey/Dumo at this point.
