So update: the Austin radical left appears to be currently tearing itself apart because of this ^ It was two groups, the Red Guards (Maoists) and the Revolutionary Student Front (Antifa with a lot of overlap). They split off from the main May Day event to march off in their own direction, which was a lightning rod for a well-prepared right-wing group with white supremacists among them to kettle them -- forcing the leftists to require the police to escort them safely away from the numerically superior right-wingers. Ouch. A bunch of other leftists in town are quite pissed at this! Best I can tell, the ultra-radical Maoist types thought the main May Day demo was too revisionist so they charged into a goblin's nest.
