people don't pay attention to black districts in the south because people vote by racial lines, meaning you get a handful of districts where all the black people are crammed in, and then all the statewide races that matter are dominated by white R voters

it's especially bad in MS because there aren't any actual urban centers to even things out. Jackson is the largest city in MS and it's only 171k people

If you or anyone else posts proof of a donation of $27 dollars to the DSA I will pay Lowtax $10 to change zergman's avatar and custom text to something. Whatever the best suggestion in the thread is.

Okay go.

There are people in the DSA working to fight this, check out the Anti-Racism working group if you want more details.

a significant chunk of the nc state dems are berniebros. iirc only two of their delegates voted for perez in the dnc elections

and for some reason the two former sanders staffers who are now vice chairs of the state party are both women of color and one's muslim :iiam:

This is good. If you want to reform the system and take it over, you can't just try to headshot the upper echelons and then get mad that it didn't work. You work from the ground up so that you don't have to win over the elites that you hate, because you've replaced them.

Luckily we have friendlies on the inside. Otherwise this would be impossible.

Thank gods for good-dems.

The bombers opened their bomb bay doors, exerted a miraculous magnetism which shrunk the fires, gathered them into cylindrical steel containers, and lifted the containers into the bellies of the planes.
Chokwe Antar Lumumba isn't a DSA member (there also isn't a chapter in Jackson, the only one in the state is a YDSA at USM), but he is active with his late father's group Cooperation Jackson which is pretty socialistic, and did host DSA organizers who came down for the march on the Nissan Plant. He was running on a platform of economic democracy. He ran as a Democrat, but we don't have party registration so he's not 'officially' anything, and the Cooperation Jackson folks acknowledge that it's mostly convenience that has the Lumumbas run as Dems. The Democratic establishment here (all poo poo on Bernie pretty regularly on their personal twitters and were #TeamTom) certainly would have preferred the main opposition candidate state Senator John Horhn. Chokwe Jr. earned my vote, and I did some door knocking too. I really hope after a couple of successful terms he runs for the deep blue MS CD 2.

Speaking of Cooperation Jackson, good article that gives some interesting ideas for local economies: https://www.thenation.com/article/meet-the-radical-workers-cooperative-growing-in-the-heart-of-the-deep-south/

quote:

Cooperation Jackson is a workers’ cooperative, started in 2013, that is striving to be a one-stop-shop for activism and economic development in the city. So far the co-op is small: a farm, a couple-dozen plots of land, a little over 100 dues-paying members, and a community center. But it’s aiming to be much more. The organization’s mission isn’t to just help Jackson residents, but to give them an entirely new, supportive economy in which to operate. The idea is essentially this: Since Jackson’s current economy isn’t working for its residents, and its current political system isn’t doing much to help, why not create a new economic and political system right alongside the old one?

“We want to become the dominant feature of our local economy,” Akuno told me over the phone. “It’s really about a localization of the economy, about maximum control in the community’s hands. These are the things we can do that protect us from the ravages of global capitalism.”

Co-ops of course aren’t a new idea, but Cooperation Jackson is unique in its comprehensiveness, its ambition, and its embrace of radical black politics. Akuno says he appreciates the work of other co-ops: There are plenty of examples of well-run economic alternatives to dominant economies, from a worker-run laundromat in Cleveland to the countless food co-ops throughout the United States. But many shy away from explicitly political goals. Cooperation Jackson, by contrast, wants to use worker-owned and -managed companies to create an economic alternative for black Jackson residents outside of capitalism, especially in an era of conservative political rule.

“We’ve learned how to implement and incite change without the support of most policy leaders,” Akuno says. “That’s a lesson the left is going to need to learn.”

Depends on the chapter, size, location, how much ISO/IWW/PSL etc. presence there is, I've met very few tankies in the DSA personally most likely b.c. tankies tend to hate success.
