don't they add calcium to cows milk anyway? Like I'm vegetarian so I still drink it but I'm pretty sure that at least some of that "nutritional" aspect of milk is actually put into the product

gently caress vegetables. Why can't kids these days just grab a glass of Pauls down at the Milk Bar and read the newspaper front page about how many homosexuals Sir Joh killed?

After drinking soy for 4 years or so, cow's milk now tastes thin and inferior. But I guess all milk tastes roughly the same, whereas bad soy milk is really really bad, so I can see why some people are wary.

Well, this is the most gut-wrenching thing I've read in a while. Not going to c&p it here, it's too sad. It's about the woman in Cairns who killed eight children. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-05-04/cairns-children-killings-what-drove-raina-thaiday-slay-8-kids/8492742

It's not quite Bonsoy (aka the Cadillac of Soy Milks) but it's so much better than regular Vitasoy or So Good. It's still about $1.50-$2 a litre but that's still more than half the cost of bonsoy, and it's available in a non-UHT format. Also lasts longer than cows milk or opened UHT soy, so that's a bonus. Works well in coffee and I guess if you were so inclined you could put it on cereal.

How did that happen? Can it be legal if a court decides so? I'm assuming it was not illegal at some point? Also, lol at Australian industrial relations.

Striking has never been legal in Australia. It's not legal in most countries due to being breach of contract and whatever other local laws there are. Thanks to the stupid loving accord we have an IR system that makes you go to a gov department to get permission to strike without fines via enterprise bargaining. Striking should be an act of legal and industrial defiance. It's disgusting that you can get fined for it, but you can't be jailed outside of the construction industry (which is a whole other level of hosed up). The strike at Fairfax is "unlawful" because it doesn't follow the rules for striking and the government can impose fines. More often than not these fines are not handed down and the parties are given scope to resolve the dispute. Have a look at the Woolworths MLDC wildcat as an example from last year.

Turns out that dude refused entry to Canada so he could go back to the USA was refused because he was trying to commit visa fraud [NYT]. Canada refused him entry because if the USA caught wind of what he was trying to do he would have been stranded in Canada and they didn't want to deal with it. Turns out when that 'For some reason the Canadians kept them until 1:30 a.m. and then they refused them entry' is expanded out to include the 'reason' part it starts looking very different from what they're trying to portray in the story here.
