Earlier today someone was talking about baseball savant. If you haven't checked it out yet do so. That site is bananas. I just learned that the two batted balls with highest chance to be a hit tonight's Royals game were Hosmer's sac fly (96%) and Gordon's line-out (95%). That is some not great luck.

I got carted out of a game at old Busch because I passed out from the heat. It was one of those days where the temp inside the stadium was probably 130 degrees and players should not be playing baseball.

I was doing fine and then it took about 20 seconds of onset dizziness before randomly blacking out. That was a fun day.

They take heat a lot more seriously at the ballpark than they did 20 years ago, thankfully.

Best games I went to were a Haren v Verlander 1-0 game where Haren got the shutout. Got to see a walkoff HBP by Hank Conger. Saw the Angels come back when down like 7 runs to King Felix. Went to the game before Weaver's no hitter.

I really don't see the benefit of trotting him back out to mop up tonight or really keeping him up on the big league squad, now even if they send him down they'll have to extend him back out to starting again, or else just make him long relief permanently. Sims is next in line for starts if anyone gets hurt, and probably Newcomb after that or even Max Fried if they want to expedite him. (Aaron Blair's looked like poo poo so far though, he might be washing out too.)

Yeah, even if the guy has some talent left he's just getting his brain broken every time he goes out there. Put him on the market for one of those change-of-scenery trades where teams swap two dudes who appear to have zero value but might get a jumpstart on a new team.

Don't rebuild your teams around minor league pitchers, folks.

For the record, Maybin put up an .801 OPS in Detroit after the Braves flipped him in the 15-16 off-season, Upton had about a season and a half worth of solid hitting in San Diego (and they got a decent lottery ticket for him), and the Padres turned Kimbrel into Manual Margot who's off to a decent start, considering his age, in San Diego.

I was at Rizzo's first game as a Cub - my wife got me tickets for my birthday long before anyone knew Rizzo would be called up that night. We were way up in Row 9 of the upper deck, which is the very last row at Wrigley. We're getting to our seats about a half-hour before the game starts when I spot Tom Ricketts wandering up and down the aisles. I see a couple of dudebros start talking to him and I notice Ricketts is giving them upgraded tickets! Fighting every introverted, polite Midwestern bone in my body, I shout "HEY TOM IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!" Twenty minutes later we're sitting in Ricketts' section, about three rows behind the Cubs' on-deck circle. Rizzo went 2-for-4 with an RBI. It was a Rizz-mas miracle.

Other than that, the most memorable game I've ever been to was Cubs/Yankees in 2011, where DOUG DAVIS of all people kept the mighty Yankees at bay for 7 1/3. There was a huge contingent of New York fans there, and with the Yankees threatening against Marmol in the 9th the crowd was the loudest I've ever heard at a ballgame, on both sides. But it was also the most convivial atmosphere I've seen with that many opposing fans at Wrigley, Yankee fans and Cubs fans drinking together, laughing, etc. It was amazing, the best baseball crowd I've ever been part of.

I've also worn a Cubs jersey to Busch Stadium II for a Cards/White Sox interleague game, but that's a boring story because people mostly just shook their heads at me.

The only super exciting thing I have seen at a game is when Cliff Pennington pitched for the Jays in the playoffs. It happened in the 9th inning of a 14-2 game, long after most fans left.

This is awesome. Shortly after the Ricketts bought the team, I had tickets to a game up in the 500's and got to chat with Tom for about 5 minutes. He wanders around the nosebleeds talking to fans quite often. He met his wife in the bleachers at Wrigley "before the tyranny of the two-beer limit" as he likes to say, so I think he's always enjoyed the fan experience.

On August 26, 1991, the Royals played the White Sox. I had won some sort of stupid writing contest and so got to go into the Royals clubhouse to meet some of the players. I got to meet George Brett and Danny Tartabull which was badass and I clearly remember, but my favorite player on that team, for whatever reason, was Mark Gubicza. I do not remember this, but my dad was very fond of retelling it: I saw Gubicza off at his locker and decided to go say hello. In order to get there, I had to walk by Bret Saberhagen's locker. Apparently Saberhagen stood up and said something like "hey buddy!" or something else totally awesome and friendly. I completely ignored him in order to try and talk to Gubicza (WHICH I DID AND HE WAS SUPER COOL AND I GOT A PICTURE WITH HIM).

Saberhagen pitched a no hitter that night and I like to think he was motivated in part by an elementary school kid snubbing him in his own goddamn clubhouse.

Also I love Aaron Judge and he's the best player ever, but all I can ever think of is Arrested Development the my name is judge Gob bit whenever he does anything. Just have that play when he hits a HR, better then Sterlings calls for him.

The whole day in school he has rubbed it in my face and I was just sort of having a lovely time of it as kids tend to do.

When my mom picked us up in the afternoon, she told me that my uncle had scored tickets to the world series game that night (Yankees vs Mets, a VERY big deal in North Jersey obviously) and I was gonna go. Yankees won game 5 despite most expectations and the atmosphere was just magical. I don't follow sports regularly but it was one of the happiest memories of my life to this day.

Some memorable games I've been to:

- Saw Cliff Lee give up 7 runs while striking out 7, and still getting the win, because Mike Sweeney went insane at the plate.
- Saw Lou get ejected once. It happened a lot but seeing it in person was truly special. The introduction of instant replay took away a lot manager meltdowns and we are lesser off for it.
- Mentioned this once, but I saw the Mariners play an away game at Safeco that was interleague so it used NL rules. Felix pitched and owned.
- Saw Griffey's first return to Seattle as a Red.
- Saw Randy's last appearance in Safeco.
- I've gone to several Mariner HoF induction games. Went to Lou Piniella's, Dan Wilson's, Randy Johnson's, and Edgar's as well.

I haven't gotten lucky with a no hitter yet, or any other crazy accomplishment.

I'm an M's fan. I've got nothing.

Willie Horton night? They drove around the perimeter of the Kingdome and threw 300 baseballs into the stands to celebrate his recent 300th HR.

Despite going to a game or two a season since 1977, I think it was 1987 or so before i saw the M's win a game.
I was in college and grad school in the 90s. Too poor and busy to have seen any of the decent crap they did in person.

If I did the math right, I saw the M's clinch at least a wild card berth, but it was in 2001 and nobody gave a crap since the playoffs were a foregone conclusion.

Edgar Martinez night in 2004 - annoyingly one game after Ichiro collected hit #258 the night before.

Saw a drunk as Hell A's fan get cuffed and arrested at a game in 2007. That was amusing.
Also saw 4-5 Miguel Bautista starts in 2007, so that offsets any enjoyment from that season.

Saw Taijuan Walker throw a one hitter. Ruined by a Miguel Sano HR that didn't have the decency to go 450 feet.

At least the future is super bright for the M's though. Right?

I went to game 2 at Turner Field. Officially, it was 2 hours and 47 minutes long but it actually had multiple rain delays and then got suspended in the 7th when they hit the curfew.

The open access to the bullpen allowed me to get Turk Wendell's autograph which I still have because Turk Wendell was weird and awesome.

Bad, very bad!
The most memorable game I've seen in person is this one, Royals/Orioles back in 2000.

This was the third of four straight walkoff wins for the Royals which seems ridiculously improbable. The O's eventually went up 6-0 and the stadium emptied around the 6th, by the 9th inning the ushers didn't give too much of a poo poo and me and my idiot teenage/early 20's friends had managed to move up all the way to first row right behind the visiting team's dugout.

The Royals got 4 back in the bottom of the 7th but it still didn't seem like they were in any danger of actually winning the game. In the bottom of the 9th someone walks, Mark Quinn (I don't know why I even remember Mark Quinn's name other than that night) hit a pinch hit double and the Royals have something going with guys on second and third. The double was important, because I cannot imagine Rey Sanchez who was next up being asked to do anything but sacrifice bunt down 2 if that didn't happen. Rey Sanchez hit 15 home runs in a 15 year MLB career. He hit one of those 15 right then, 3 run shot and the Royals walked off 7-6.

I also remember this because Albert Belle was walking off the field super slowly after the game and my jackass buddy who must have been all of 5'7" and 175 soaking wet was just laying into him with bullshit. Nothing bad or anything but just loudly and constantly for what felt like a minute to walk between the third base foul line and into the dugout. Right when he finally goes down the dugout steps Albert looks up at him and gives this subtle little 'come on' gesture. Not seriously I'm sure, but just taunting him back because he knew my friend wasn't going to do poo poo.

I've also been in attendance for an 8 run comeback win but I don't remember it anywhere near as well, the combination of Rey Sanchez: hero and the Belle thing make me remember this one perfectly.
