So eh, How old are you guys/your cars that you all seem to know about double (de)clutching?
|
# ? May 4, 2017 11:25 |

I dunno about anybody else but I only know of things like double declutching because my dad used to drive cars without synchromesh in the old days and figured this was essential learning for me. My knowledge of heel-and-toe is entirely down to that video of Senna with LoaferCam(TM) and a subsequent history of burning clutches in rental cars.

I read about it on the internet and do it because I'm an excellent driver. I also read that race drivers haven't done it in years, but I think I know better than them

It looked like thishttp://imgur.com/a/kbJpD except I used red and green electrical tape to give it a tricolore racing stripe down the middle of the bonnet, roof and boot. I did not learn about double clutching, nor did I learn about single clutching. In fact I burnt out the clutch a couple of times.... I was not a good manual driver. aequalis fucked around with this message at 13:16 on May 4, 2017 |

I think the last major Formula-Style cars to use non-paddleshifts were the 2006 Champcars. Still were sequential manuals though.

Speaking of different driving techniques, I once tried left foot braking. Brain instinct kicked in and decided that because it was my left foot, I must want to mash my foot down all the way. I left a nice set of tyre marks down the A5 just south of Daventry and another lovely set of marks just south of my belt. Luckily I was stupid enough to try it on a clear stretch of road late at night, so no one had to react to my rapid deceleration from 70 to 0 on a single lane carriageway. I am not a clever man.

I practice every day, and I still screw it up on track when I have to trail brake with the left foot and then downshift.

I don't think he did have them for a bit. He got in as a replacement for Deter Reiken or whatever his name is one GP and that seemed to open the flood gates.

He has permanent press credentials because he used to work for Autosport and has attended every race for like 20 years.

Pretty sure hes led some of the press conferences as well during grand prix weekend. Not to mention the couple of successful F1 books he's authored. It seems like when he started his blog the ability to publish his thoughts broke his brain. No longer did it have to go through some sort of oversight or colleagues calling you out on your bullshit.

What was the last really out there prediction that he actually got. He'll often make really obvious softball ones like "Alonso isn't moving to Mercedes after he said he isn't moving to Mercedes" then claim it as a hot scoop.
