hey, that sounds cool, enjoy!

I am doing a more urban-type walk

on saturday, I'm going to attempt to walk around the circumference of manhattan, a 32-34 mile walk

it's an organized thing called "the great saunter," they've been doing it for many years now, but this is the first time I'm gonna give it a try

I've done plenty of (somewhat) challenging things like runs, bike rides, mountain hikes, etc., but I don't think I've ever walked this far at one go, should be interesting

Ooh, which kinds of sheep? I volunteer on a small sheep farm (the farm is small, the sheep are sheep sized) which is open to the public.

Wow, that sounds pretty dang neat. I might be bad at estimating walking pace, but that sounds like ten hours plus of sauntering!

OMG I COULD TALK ABOUT SHEEP ALL DAY BE MY FRIEND. 19 breeds over two days; it's an overview of wool qualities with a friend of mine as the master instructor (beth smith, she wrote some books and spins a lot and has a tiara ok) and we're gonna have a great time spinning next to the ocean. this is my last hurrah before i move to portland.

i volunteer on a rescue ranch too (rip me, i'm leaving tho) and they have shetlands, jacobs, romneys (uh the best longwool obv) and one cormo ram named father ted. my personal sheep up there are southdowns; the sheep my parents raise are romneys, southdowns, shetlands, and polled dorset crossed with targhee for an interesting dual purpose breed. we should sheep chat soon. i could probably do a sheep thread with you.

This is my nightmare. I thought I had tooth problems and went to the dentist a bunch who said it wasn't tooth problems, then I played specialist pinball and went to an ER, a GP, and a neurologist, and now I have to go to an ENT when I can afford it... We still don't know what it is and the entire time all I can think is "Whew, no root canal"

We have Dorset Downs, Romneys and Lleyns and recently branched out into rarer breeds- Manx Loaghan (sp) and Herdwick. Sadly, one of the manx died shortly after lambing, but her lamb is okay and being bottle fed. it sounds like you have far more there than we do! We have 50-odd ewes and a couple of rams- we hire in the rare breed ones as needed. I don't do much of the day to day sheep stuff as it's literally not my department, but it's impossible not to learn about them over time and become fond of a few (Hetty!).

yep, that's very close! the "official" time estimate is 11.5 to 12 hours, but it's pretty loose/flexible. people go at their own pace, take breaks whenever they want, take shortcuts if they need to, drop out early if they want, etc. sort of an anti-marathon.

will do! I think it's a particularly cool experience for people who have been doing it for many years, who get to observe the changes over time in various parts of the waterfront. in general the waterfront is getting nicer and nicer, esp. on the west side--the east side is still kind of spotty, there are sections where there's no waterfront path and you have to go inland for a bit. manhattan says hello and that you should come back and visit sometime if you have the time and inclination!
