it seems like there's been a lot of them too this postseason. pageau with the 4 goal game, brian elliot knocking the wild out in 5 games, maf in general. hell, tom wilson had 3 goals against the leafs, i hate that fucker but caps fans had to love that

I get that and it's probably true but I really don't see any difference between Shattenkirk and Wideman when he was here except Wideman was more hilarious when he hosed up. Shattenkirk just looks sad.

Regardless of how the series/playoffs end for Pit, if Crosby is healthy (concussion-wise) at the end then I'll be content because I got to witness something wholly unexpected.

Following MAF's probable last hurrah with the Pens has been great. I'm happy that he has put together a string of strong performances for a "farewell tour". We all know that he has some glaring flaws (e.g. rebound control, positional over-commitment), but when it works out in his favor that scuttling and scrambling is a joy to behold.

Murray is clearly a more reliable and overall skillful netminder, but MAF is always fun to watch (both in good and bad times) and he's a drat charming fellow off the ice too. Earnest, goofy, clever, and endearing, he's easily my favorite person to have ever regularly donned a Pens jersey.

I mean it seems like they followed the protocol. He stayed off the ice Wednesday. Assuming he had no symptoms that day they then put him on the ice for a light practice Thursday. With no symptoms there, the next step would be a full contact practice which would have him being just able to play tomorrow provided he feels fine after this practice.

I kinda wish they'd hold him out until at least game 6 but if the Bone Shamans say he can play I guess he can play.

Hoping Crosby is healthy as well because then there'll be some secret schadenfreude for the Rangers fans who were quietly thinking "all we have to do is get past Ottawa! This is our year and we didn't even have to get Kreider to kill him".

If the doctors clear him, broadly assuming they are giving a reasoned opinion, then he should play. I can't imagine literally scratching a technically-healthy 87. I don't personally know how bad the injury was and concussions vary greatly. If you believe the doctors under pressure from Pens management (or otherwise) make a bad call on it, then I get it but don't think that is what is happening.

Murray is on the ice today as well so it's highly possible he's ready to go for the Senators. (Or Rangers, I guess.) But probably the Senators.

I meant the former as a jab at Rangers fans, but the latter works as a jab at Sens fans so let's go with both.

Ovie has been Jeckyll and Hyde in this series. At 5v5 he was good in game 1 and really good in game 2, but he was pretty bad in games 3 and 4. I would have preferred that it wasn't an elimination game that Trotz was shaking things up, but I can see why he might. I also wouldn't be surprised if he goes back to the usual combos early in game 5.

It might be fair to ask whether the caps lineup needs a. If shake in the offseason as maybe it's too predictable now but hard to do that successfully with an already super talented lineup

Better possession team I guess but the Rangers are more talented at scoring goals and have the better goalie which may or may not matter since Rinne is dominating.

Interestingly the Corsi ranks of the remaining teams look like this:

Washington: 4th
Nashville: 7th
Pittsburgh: 16th
Edmonton: 18th
Anaheim: 19th
Ottawa: 22nd
New York: 25th

Unless Washington finds a way to win 3 straight Nashville is your smart money Cup winner if you think it will hold like it has in the past and have the dominant possession team winning it all.
I haven't actually checked but it seems like theees a lot of low cf teams making the post season. I know the Rangers are a breakout team these days. Don't know about the others as muv

The spread between good and bad possession teams is much smaller than in past years because, for all their old timey grit n' compete, coaches and GMs are directly trying to improve in that aspect.

Jarry is largely untested in the NHL, save a very small sample size. But in the AHL, dude is a wrecking ball of a goalie. It would be fascinating if anything happened to Fleury to see what occurs from there.

Likely awful things, but then again, who thought Murray was gonna play his way to a cup?

Wasn't Murray a blue chip prospect lighting up the ahl the same way jarry has been?

Murray lit up the AHL in a way few goalies ever have. He put up a 940 and a 930 in his two seasons there.

Jarry had a 925 this year which is pretty good. Hard to say how he'd play if he came in. I didn't notice anything glaringly suspect about him in his one start this year.

Yes. A staff that was fired for doing just that. It's a completely new medical staff run by the best sports medicine center in the area. It's been this way for a couple seasons. I don't understand why everyone keeps bringing this up.

And the Pens have been especially careful with concussions after the fiasco with the old staff and Crosby.

Also, maf is killing it, but obviously our old rear end, former goalie gm is definitely way too smart to fall in love with an aging, locker room guy keeper on a hot streak. Yeah, I mean there's no chance he'll be fooled into keeping the young, consistent, and more talented guy over maf. No way. It could never happen.
