Lord_Hambrose posted:That makes sense. The idea of starting with Gun Beasts without the guns makes sense, but I guess it isn't something I had considered. Making lists for Tyranids is way harder than others. Might just stick with Chaos or Eldar. Yeah Tyranids and Grey Knights are more of a "if you really want to" than a proper good idea in SW:A it seems.

I decided the Kroot need some SW:A love so I've started making a Tau Empire Auxiliaries faction. Max fighters 15, with 3 specialists allowed. Was thinking the following for fighter options, essentially using the 40k statlines from the codex as seems to be the standard for most of the factions: Leader: Kroot Shaper Trooper: Kroot Carnivore Recruit: Kroot Hounds (functions like Chaos Cultists when promoting - eg. remains a Hound but can get new hound-only gear and advances) Specialist: Vespid Stingwing Was thinking about allowing ONE specialist to be a Krootox. Skills access is pretty diverse: Shaper gets all except shooting. Carnivores get Ferocity, Muscle, Stealth. Vespid get Shooting, Guerilla, Stealth, Agility. Kroot Hounds get Ferocity, Agility, Stealth. Krootox would just get Muscle, Ferocity? I need some ideas for faction specific gear that they can get. So far I have the obvious Kroot equipment, a few bits of scavenged Tau gear, and the Vespid's neutron gun. Hound Equipment is obviously all new. I thought they could get some armour, enhanced claws/beak, and maybe a grenade harness thing that detonates when the model goes Down.

Other specialist options: Kroot Vulture, Krook Ox, Gnarloc Rider. Maybe have a houndmaster and pack of hounds as a specialist (like Ork Grots?) Remove Vespids entirely and make it a Kroot Mercs killteam

I loved DoW1, but DoW2 introduced boss fights, and Retribution campaigns were total low effort trash like Soulstorm. Didn't get into DoW2 multiplayer, so take that as you will. DoW3 is... I dunno. It wears the skin of a 40k. It probably works if you don't care about 40k. Take Space Marine tacticals as an example. Come in squads of five dudes. No sarges, no nothing. If you give them plasmas, the whole squad gets plasmas. They have the same armor type as ork boys (NORMAL ARMOR in the parlance of the game) and deal normal damage. They are... ok in shooting, crap in melee. And they die like bitches. Anything that's not an ELITE UNIT dies like a bitch. Take your eye off them for a second and an ork shoota squad has killed half a squad. They don't really have interesting abilities or anything, they're just dudes that stand in one place and fire disappointing bolters into ork boys that assault marines (total poo poo in shooting, awesome in melee) are cutting up. So if you totally don't care about Marines bring Marine tough and fighting like Marines, you'll enjoy that. Then you have Gabriel Angelos, the Nuker/Tank class elite. He jumps around in Terminator armor. He does the Assault Marine jump-n-pound because Godsplitter does that. He also has a slam special attack. Early campaign stresses that you can use Godsplitter as basically a jump pack. If you try to look into melee - the camera is locked way higher than in DoW1 - you'll notice that he's just whacking away at orks with his thunderhammer. Its all super boring, finishing moves are a thing of distant past, orks either get gibbed or just fall on the ground. That's because DoW3 is all about masses of faceless troops standing around shooting at each other until they all quickly die. There's no time for you to zoom in and take it all in. You have to micro your Elites and have a basic understang that heavy bolter devastators do damage in a Circle and Slow the enemies. All unit description are these barely english snippets of Keywords. The interface is the worst of colorful cartoony CoH2 crap. The cut scenes are all narrated slideshows. You can't do in engine stuff like DoW1 did, because the models are too ugly for that.

Yeah I really hated what I played of the beta. The camera was waaaay too restrictive, the units died too fast with not enough feedback, the whole thing just felt like an early command and conquer RTS and not like a modern game.

There's a FAQ out for SW:A https://www.warhammer-community.com/2017/05/05/shadow-war-armageddon-your-questions-answered/ quote:Q. Who has the Marks of Chaos special rule? Is it just the special operatives? Good job making that unclear in the rules first time. quote:Q. Can Tyranid Warriors swap weapons with another model post-game? What the gently caress? GW just making GBS threads on Tyranids for no reason as ususal. They're bio-symbiotes GW, did you forget your own lore?! On the upside now we can purchase Devourers. TKIY posted:So you have to buy two gun beasts right away with their biocannons if you want them. With 1000 points? Considering you have to purchase a leader? I don't think so. They really just said "gently caress tyranids" with SW:A. Which is par for the course with GW I guess You can still upgrade the weapons of gunbeasts later on if you buy them with just talons, if I'm interpreting the rule correct. It just means that then if you swap them for something else, you're not allowed to re-use whatever you had on them, or pass them another weapon. Which is something everybody else in SW:A gets to do, and there's no reason to block Tyranids from doing it. Its super punishing because their weapons and units are extremely expensive. Its already very hard to have enough points by the campaign rules to buy a gunbeast after the start.
