stuff like no s. link requiring a proficiency unlock and then you randomly being bombarded with a rank 4 and rank 5 wall towards the end of the game is just designed to punish players who didnt know how to spend their time.

Game is cool and good and I'm glad I spent 70 hours on finishing it. I got all confidants maxed out so I have their special items, if I dip into NG+ to play trophy hunter is there any stacking benefit to completing them all again or is it just going to be the arcana burst gains and picking up whatever tier skills the items done give you?

God loving dammit I just got spoiled on a major late-game fight because some rear end in a top hat decided to put "This is a great Persona for the fight against <spoiler>!" on a Persona whose fusion recipe I was looking up

I basically wasted the first 2 or 3 months. I also spent a ton of time grinding for Persona's in Mementos. Also, because I was going for Kawakami first, I had to grind up Guts, which takes the longest in the early game

I too like social stats, as complexity of the non-combat combat parts of the game would be thrown out the window if it were removed. It's like a challenging worker-placement euro board game, and the MC is the meeple.

For example, Moon gives you 100% exp to your backup members right when you establish it, but you'll have to raise Star to get anything beyond Joker switching party members and instant escape.

Yeah, even if social stats as a concept aren't necessarily bad, Persona 5 is unnecessarily punishing about them, especially Proficiency. I was lucky enough to have spent my time well in the first half of the game so I could be kinda sloppy and still max all confidants, but Proficiency really could've screwed me if I wasn't. Persona 5 is just way too aggressive with the stat gates, basically.

Since Proficiency lets you build more tools there is at least a small incentive to raise it before those stat gates. I don't think any of the other stats are used for anything except social link stat gates and burgers? I don't count exams because Nanako isn't in this game so who cares.

Huge drop from P4 where it gated good items and P3 where it gated a social link

Sojiro DOES give you stuff for doing well on your exams. Like for doing okay on the second one he gives you the Dandy Mirror, a Joker-exclusive accessory that repels Physical stuff.

New game + is pretty loving cool because (full game spoilers, vaguely) I have every non-story social link done at 11/20, except for Empress and Tower, both of which are at 9 and ready to rank up Maybe that's a little too much leeway but I know whenever I feel like playing this game in the future, I have to go NG+.

social stats would be fine if they made sense in terms of progression and giving you choice on who to hang out w/ early. rank 5 kindness or w/e is cool to get to the final part of a social link, not the halfway through or god forbid the start. id also be cool if they made demon negotiation easier. rank 5 kindness lets you get upbeat demons under your level instantly or w/e. also an in combat buff if you max them. guts saves you from death once. kindness guarantees MC isn't hit by the first status ailment debuff etc basically it'd do the stuff social links do for other party members to the MC. anime was right fucked around with this message at 00:02 on May 6, 2017 |

PS4 owners, I'm curious: Is there still the occasional low-res/muddy texture? The ps3 version is mostly fine and the videos indicate it's mostly the same, but every now and there'll be a stray element that looks like it was designed ten years ago for ps2 hardware (probably an obvious reason for that). It was really noticeable on the slot machines. Do the slot machines look like poo poo on ps4? this is extremely important.

Thanks! Was wondering if it addressed a few problem areas. In particular, the repeating casino corridor texture with flyers all over the walls was really something else. It was like I stumbled into a Godhand level. Not that I mind, Godhand ruled.

Alright, I want to ask this now. I'm at Shido's palace, and want to verify whether or not a forced time skip to the deadline or later will take place if I steal the treasure from Shido's palace before said deadline, or will it do like the others where the objective changes to "wait for the change of heart to take place". Of course, there could be another twist ahead for all I know, I just want to be sure if I should just go for it or go ahead and use up the 22 spare days I now have after managing to one-round the treasure route. I ask because I recall something similar happening in a similar situation in Persona 4.

Whenever the game says "You have X days remaining until the deadline" you will always have all those days for social links even if you finish it early. Theres no forced loss of days as a result of taking the treasure early and this is true for every single Palace.

Each Persona game has real standouts in the soundtrack listing, and this game's are definitely Last Surprise and Beneath the Mask. The Casino track is awesome, but I feel a lot of the dungeon themes are forgettable and the first Palace's track I actively dislike. Persona 4 had my least favorite collection of tracks in the series as a whole, but Who's There is one of the best "something fuckey's up" tracks around. Persona 3's soundtrack really stole the show of the entire game though, every single track added something to the game's atmosphere, which P3 did an amazing job with. As much as I like P5's music, there's still something about the Dorms theme in P3 that keeps me interested just by nature of how off-kilter it is, sort of like the night theme in XenobladeX. That's not even accounting for all the great bulding progression of Burn My Dread that the game does, or the tracks that just stand out by nature of being great songs like Changing Seasons or When The Moon's Reaching Stars. I partially want one of the DLC packs for the battle theme just because I'm ready for something new after 80 hours of gameplay, but at the same time, I've played through P3 four times and I always listen to the in-game music while playing because it feels like an essential part of the experience.
