Also there's no conspiracy against the Oilers. If there was a conspiracy against the Oilers Connor McDavid wouldn't be playing for them. He's 20 years old. Even if the Oilers lose this series or whatever, it's not like the window has closed. They have a bunch of worldbeaters entering their prime in the upcoming years.

Ryan Kesler is extremely good at cheating and I feel like there's not a referee in the NHL who would overturn that on-ice goal call, given that Kesler was technically pushed into the crease & the circumstances of it being a game-tying goal on home ice with 15 seconds left.

Kesler was pushed into the crease and was holding on to his stick. (which was in turn trapped by Nurse's stick). Good call. Oh and gently caress the oilers. (and the ducks).

As a neutral fan, I wholly approve of the rigging. I could not believe what I saw when I loaded up the highlights on DTMTS without knowing a thing about what happened. When the Oilers went up 3-0 and the video was only halfway over, I thought the editors made a mistake. What a loving game. I really hope someone out there did some extended highlights for it since that was incredible to watch.

There was some hosed up officiating Thursday night but I can't blame the refs for the Sens losing. It was clear that, that night, the Rangers were simply the better team.

Its just a matter of fact that the refs arent concerned with enforcing the rulebook but instead doling out punishment to those they think are unworthy of their beneficence. The refs were obviously going "lol really oilers wow you are so fuckin bad at this you had a 3 goal lead" and decided to punish the Oilers for their incompetence. Just like the Capitals the other day. Yeah they were making a push the other day but the refs nipped it in the bud. Why? Because you really think a team that's struggling so hard to get more than two past MAF and a Letang-less, Crosby-less Penguins really deserves a win? Hell no. Just put 'em out of their fuckin' misery Steve.

I think we can all agree that the challenge is stupid and has led to far more idiotic "the refs are out to get us this look at this 1/60 of a second freeze frame that vaguely shows that maybe they got it wrong" than normal and we can all do without that. It was a nice idea that has led fans to expect far more from refs than can reasonably be expected from human beings. At this point I'm yearning wistfully for the days of "that hit was legal/no it deserves a police investigation" arguments because I don't know how many more onside/offside interference/not interference circular arguments I have the stomach for.

What's stupid is when offsides that had no impact on the play which resulted in a goal is the reason for it being over turned. The challenge should be modified, not removed.

Slo-mo and more cameras have ruined the game. Just play the game and embrace that refs are human and fuckups are the way of the world because the alternative is even more cameras and sensors and games decided by something that happened in 1/100 of a second.

When you check attacking players into your goalie you risk goals being scored. You are basically causing goaltender interference and hoping the ref agrees with you. I'd have called it back but I can see how someone might not. Kesler was holding his stick which one can argue was tied up enough that he couldn't get his hand and glove around the pad in a chaotic scramble. He was probably moving the pad on purpose, but this would be a judgement call, and they may have decided it was inconclusive so that the call on the ice would stand. The fact that they ruled it a goal so quickly over review suggests that they probably didn't even see the hand pad fuckery though, which is frustrating. If you go to video review you should be thorough.

The playoffs are all about who cheats best. The Ducks are a veteran team and are showing the Oil a thing or two about veteran presence. That Kesler replay is pretty funny though set against the Backstrom "interference."

I don't think it's inherently stupid, but its current implementation is extremely bad. Just the idea of the same refs who made the call then being responsible for deciding whether to admit they were wrong by using a lovely rear end iPad on the ice is so laughably idiotic. Seems like if they're going to review plays, just have some dude in Toronto or wherever in a room full of big HD screens showing all the different camera angles make a call. Would be faster and better.
