Honestly, the offsides review should be restricted only to the zone entry that lead to that goal, if it isn't already.

Aren't they going to "blue line is a vertical plane" like the NFL goal line next season anyway? I heard talks about that.

No they literally said "it doesn't happen enough to be an issue and offsides has always been you had to touch the line so we're not changing it

This isn't stupid. There's no exception in the NHL offside rule for "oh but if it didn't affect the play..."

Because literally every call affects the play and all subsequent plays. What if there was a missed offside resulting in a faceoff in the zone and a goal is scored off the faceoff? Should that goal be called back and the game rewinded to the offside? Playing for 5 minutes and then calling back a goal because once upon a time an offside might have happened is silly.

Now and again, I see someone on twitter pipe up with "they should remove offsides entirely if they want to increase goals" and sometimes I think about it and am like sure why not? What's the worse that could happen we got rid of the 2 line pass.

That'd be the weirdest. Just dudes hovering on the boards in the offense zone, waiting for an end around clear. Icings wouldn't exist anymore and it would fundamentally change literally everything about how the game is played.

I mean, maybe if the WWE is wants to blow a colossal amount of money in desperation.

imo players should try not to go uselessly offside as often as they do, would save a lot of time

I think offsides should be a judgment call by the linesman. On every play, they should ask themselves, "Will this be exciting?" If the answer is no, they should whistle it dead. If yes, play ball!

Actually if they could just call hockey by the actual rules instead of making a bunch of them context sensitive based on time of year/playoffs/overtime it would probably be better.

If that happened that they followed the letter of the law 100% of the time, who's to say the Oilers are even in the playoffs or not bounced in the first round. You know that ticky tack poo poo happens all game long and only some of these "controversies" are covered because a producer caught it on the feed and pointed it out, right?

yeah but that's never going to happen in a million years so what they should do instead is embrace the reality of how playoff officiating is currently conducted and hold a ceremony before the very first game of the playoffs where they gather all the league's referees and linesmen in black robes and symbolically burn the nhl rulebook at center ice while they stand around in a circle chanting "let them play, let them play, unless it's rigged, let them play"

Make it so that if you can only review zone entries before the puck touches three people inside the opposing zone. Once it touches a third person then the zone entry is no longer reviewable.

I'm more talking about "letting them play" or whatever because they don't want the ref deciding important games. I guess that we do want refs deciding all the other games though.

Because it would pretty much eliminate the neutral zone play from the game.

I used to play in a kind of home games and even there we had offsides because not having them was complete poo poo show.

I don't think an actual contender for the cup gives up late leads in multiple games with less than 90 seconds to play. I also don't think an actual contender for the cup trails for most of the game in multiple games and then somehow scores to force overtime.

And yet here we are
