I dunno because CCA isn't much newer but it has far more visceral edge to its combat than Zeta. And I am a proponent of the idea that a fight scene's effectiveness is based less around a show's budget and more around how well it conveys impact within the limitations imposed on the show. 0079 has no budget but very good fight scenes for what they had to work with. Zeta has a much larger budget but none of the creativity in its fight scenes that make 0079 memorable. CCA is beautiful and has some really punchy fights which I attribute to the runtime limitations of a film rather than a series. It needs to make its action pop with only 2 hours to cover what could be a full series.

Zeta feels clunky in that regard since it's the first Gundam show to have proper funding and not have its runtime cut by cancellations. It has everything you'd need to make a good show but doesn't quite stick the landing when it comes to action.

I see nothing wrong with this. 0079 fights are frequently hilarious but they're at least fun. Zeta somehow makes a GM crashing into the ground at full speed seem boring.

They were usually incredibly bad and rife with stock footage. The compilation movies were a major improvement but it was still frequently bad.

I can hear you
Zeta had a lot of well done fights towards the end, in my opinion. Anything with updated animation in the compilation movies was solid, especially plane vs Asshimar compared to the tv series. I agree the choreography isn't Tomino's best but I struggle to think of any action sequences that could be considered bad/boring per se. It's been a few months since I last watched it and I do love it a lot though so I am fully prepared to admit to bias, faulty memory, idiocy or all three.

I'm not done with it but it definitely gets a little better over time, tho "bad/boring" is a fair complaint for a lot of them I think. at least in the first half

I don't disagree that Zeta has a lot of flat choreography but I don't think the original is any better.

I picked up the first volume of Thunderbolt today. Is there a reason to read it over just watching the anime? I wasn't feeling the volume at all.

There are a few bits and pieces and little details that flesh out the setting and characters a bit more. It's your call on whether that's enough for you.

It's like a metaphor for how it wants to be super tragic but can't help itself turning pornographic instead (spoiler; this is a serious scene of ultimate, literally mind-breaking horror for that character). Seriously though, this and the other less literal tragi-porn leaves a bad taste, but the first arc has a goddamn amazing setting so I think it's worth continuing the manga if you like that kind of thing; the anime I found less atmospheric, maybe because it doesn't really give you time to dwell on the scenes. Just shut down your brain for the terrible character stuff.

Went for Option A. It's not as dynamic as B and D, but I kind of love having both the oldest and the newest Gundams on the cover - it really captures the game's scope. Plus, the idea of the Barbatos making the cover of a AAA game is too good to resist.

I preferred A and C, personally, but went for A because Barbatos is probably my favorite Gundam.

So apparently they're gonna make another GBF thing, here's the PV, no new animation though:

Considering it's called "Extra Battle" and all we've seen is two kits (only one of which is, presumably, a protagonist combat machine), I'm wondering if it's just a standalone OVA rather than a third full season.

I actually felt that C was the weakest one on offer. There's no dynamism to it, just two big robots aimlessly floating in space. It looks like Io dragged Setsuna off to check out the new jazz album he downloaded, and they just left their suits where they were. A and D tell us a lot more about the game itself - A shows us the sheer scope of the material it will cover, and D shows us the fast-paced action it's built around.

I like C because it just invokes a sense of awe and wonder. It doesn't necessarily fit well with the game, but I think it looks loving great. B is way too cluttered imo and D just doesn't jive with me for some reason. I don't know why, but I just can't place my finger on it.

I don't get the theme of C. A is first and latest Gundam, B is two very iconic UC Gundams, D is two popular in the US Gundams (I guess?) but I don't see what connects the Exia and Full Armor.

All Of The Swords versus All Of The Guns, I guess?

I dunno, I like all the covers honestly. There's no dealbreaker suits on any of the covers for me to consider any of them bad. Though I can't say the same for the cinematic.

It seems like an attempted combination of A and D's themes. A popular, Western-famous suit and a machine that represents both the oldest and newest parts of the franchise. Remember that the Thunderbolt anime started airing after IBO.
