This makes me more sympathetic towards Harvey battling alcohol-related (or other problems, with alcohol being a temporary relief) issues.

Seeking help or admitting flaws is hard on anyone at anytime, let alone a "celebrity" ensconced in a culture where it's considered virtuous (by some) to prioritize a regular day of work over a death in the family.

I've been watching games there for 10 years and always wondered if anybody would do it and tonight it happened. Could have been a fluke but I have never seen the ball explode off the bat like that in a minor league game. Random picture I found of said apartments:

It is insofar as the team is terrible and they'd really like to have Blackburn right now, but it's probably an okay move in the long run. They're going to eventually have a bench with Posey and Crawford when those contracts don't age gracefully, and that's coming right about the time this guy is in his mid 20s.

In today's 35-6 loss to the Red Sox, Joe Mauer came in to pinch hit for the Twins with a runner on 3rd and 1 out, down 7-6 in the 8th.

He worked the count full and struck out looking on a borderline third strike. He proceeded to angrily get into it with the umpire. When asked about it after the game, Joe was still clearly irate:

In a situation where a giving up a home run loses you the game the last thing you want to do is throw a high fastball down the middle, particularly on a 1-2 pitch.

Forever ago now, but yeah. He'd also been throwing that pitch in that basic location for like his entire appearance, the preceding curve notwithstanding. I realize Mauer's anemic power and all, but he was clearly sitting on it, and was right to be.

In more recent events, what the gently caress is going on with the Twins' bullpen? Is Molitor that poo poo at pitcher management? Is Pressley so bad we can't ask him to make more than nine pitches? A loving 10-run 9th inning is atrocious, I don't care if the other side is a conga line of Barry Bondses. And that's basically two games in a row. I guess my only solace when I see them Wednesday is that the White Sox are almost as bad. Jesus.
