Yeah miliband had a problem that was separate from any policy, his goofy gumpy looking face. I remember 2 years ago watching the leaders' debates and he would just stare directly into the camera with his eyes all big and googly to 'directly address the viewer' and it made your skin crawl.

T May on the other hand has a real visage. She looks like she should be prime minister. She always looks very alert and earnest and capable and formidable.

Whereas corbyn never stood a chance in hell, even an outside chance, because he looks like a shambolic communist held-over from the 1960s.

Assassinations are only the province of marxists and brown people, unlike noted gardener and good lad Thomas Mair who just went a bit mental because immigrants were going to take his council house. The Daily Mail said so!

just trying to think for five minutes about what a right-labourist brexit strategy would be is enough to lose hope in them

centre-left parties have been declining all over the western world. the democrats were a hollow shell and then trump broke the shell. the parti socialiste were a footnote in the election to replace their own incumbent president. what keeps happening to my clothes
the fun part is if labour had actually done what they promised in three consecutive winning manifestos and changed the voting system to something less stupid it might be possible for another non-tory party to emerge and not just split the vote everywhere, but of course they had big majorities so they didn't want to fix the roof while the sun was shining

Yeah that was weird. It reminded me of how right before their inauguration every US president is presumably taken into a bunker by the CIA and told if they don't toe the line they'll be JFKed.

How? Introduce a new currency and inflate your way out of debt. The wealthy would never be able to vacation abroad, but that's the only major downside I see.

a) Their debt is still denominated in Euros, so that doesn't work, and

b) even if it did, Greece is not a self-sufficient economy: they need to import necessities from abroad. Having a worthless currency makes this rather difficult.

the EU should pay Greece's debt itself by fining the living poo poo out of the various banks that defrauded them by concealing Greece's existing finances when they applied but this would involve banks being penalized by a banking organization so

Defaulting on unsustainable public debt isn't suicide. Indeed, Greece has already technically defaulted several times, taking small haircuts and accepting bailouts. I think they should have defaulted and aggressively restructured a much, much bigger chunk of their debt, as their current debt-to-GDP ratio is barely sustainable and basically mandates perpetual austerity.

If anything, saddling future generations with a lifetime of debt peonage is suicide.
