It's a weird recommendation though. They're saying the movie is well-constructed but they stop short of saying it's great. It's like going to a restaurant and there's absolutely nothing wrong with the meal, but then you completely forget about the restaurant because it wasn't memorable either.
I've seen a few comic book movies and they're, with the exception of Guardians and to the lesser extent maybe Iron Man, pretty much this. They're competently made entertainment, but a month later I can't tell the difference between any of those films. In contrast, I've only seen Inglorious Basterds once in the theaters (8 years ago!), and I can still recall Land chewing out the french farmer in the opening, Shosanna eating cake, the pub scene, etc. clear as day. For me, I'd say this just might be the line between art and entertainment.

I liked GOTG 2 alot maybe even better then one for the same reasons RLM did. it was more character focused and everyone had a arc and the humor was overall pretty good though it felt forced at times in the beginning. that said the only complaint they made that i didnt agree with was the whole "peter should have been seduced by ego longer and his friends help him". personaly i just liked When Peter learns Ego killed his mother his reaction was one of the most realistic and justified knee-jerk reactions I ever seen in a movie. least in a cape flick.

Plus it was a payoff to what Peter said he would do if he found out Ego was evil before they even left with him.

The Guardians movies are definitely a cut above the rest of the MCU, though they have similar flaws. GotG benefits from having a way cooler setting and universe, and better characters that feel fresh. I'm getting tired of IronMan, Captain America, etc. I dont care about Spider-Man. I'm getting bored of the Avengers stuff, the S.H.I.E.L.D. and HYDRA stuff. GoTG has a huge, fun-looking universe to explore. I wish it were stand-alone.

Thor: Ragnarok actually looks like fun because it looks like its going in a similar direction: exploring a crazy Jack Kirby universe of gods and aliens and cosmic epicness. That's WAY more fun than a bunch of superheroes who all have the same personality play-fighting in an empty airport, or yet another Spider-Man movie.

I would love it if the whole movie was the Avengers failing at defeating thanos and dying one by one, only to be saved by the guardians at the last second who come in and brutally ridicule the Avengers for being the cheap ripoff of the Guardians.

Yeah it's a bummer that the Thanos stuff is going to be an Avengers double feature with GotG cameos even though the only characters that have personal beefs with Thanos are in GotG.

Then again, maybe it's for the best because the Thanos plot is kinda loving dumb and plodding and the movies will probably be half exposition dumps.

I have not read the comics, but the infinity stones stuff is real dumb right? Like Thanos uses the gauntlet to kill 50% of everything to impress the goddess of Death, who he wants to get with?

Something like that
Thanos being in love with Death is still in the movies, Avengers stinger was Thanos turning to the camera and grinning when told that fighting the Avengers would be "to court death"
It's actually the only part of the movie I remember that well, because I was explaining to family that it was a comics thing

It's just weird, more than dumb. It's super interconnected and takes advantage of years of continuity while retconning other things. Thanos himself is an interesting comic book character, but he's very much a comic book character. Like for the Infinity Wars and gems to make sense means you need to have read like 10 years of cosmic books or a bunch of character bios on things like the physical embodiment of Reality and Time. Or how there's a giant three headed man who judges the universe. Not to mention the whole death thing. Or Adam Warlock. Cosmic comics are crazy.

I don't pay attention to the Marvel movies except for what my hack fraud fake friends tell me, but I'll watch an Infinity Wars movie just to see how bad they gently caress it up.
