Counterpoint: Aborigines who can pass for Anglo are constantly pressured into 'just being white', mostly as a way of avoiding shitheads.

Budget continues to suck.

Budget 2017: AFP to get $321m funding boost to hire extra personnel By political reporter Stephanie Borys Updated 20 minutes ago

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) will receive an additional $321.4 million in tomorrow's budget to fund an expansion of the force.

Key points:

AFP expected to use funding to hire specialist personnel
Justice Minister Keenan says the AFP needs to be a high-tech organisation
Keenan denies AFP has been under-resourced or is immune to the efficiency dividend
Up to 300 personnel are expected to be hired, including negotiators, tactical response officers, bomb squad technicians and forensic specialists.

Justice Minister Michael Keenan said the funding will ensure the AFP has adequate personnel and resources to deal with the multiple threats facing Australia. "We are living in a very difficult national security environment and we're also living in an environment where organised criminals, particularly those involved in the drug trade, continue to enhance the sophistication of their operations," he told AM. "And we need the AFP to be a high-tech organisation, with the skills sets available to it, to meet these threats." Mr Keenan has also denied suggestions the extra funding indicated the force had not been properly resourced. "This is a very significant investment, the largest single investment in the past decade and it goes over and above what we have already done to ensure the AFP has the resources that it needs to do its job," he said.

The $321.4 million will be rolled out over the next four years with the Federal Government indicating it will not be cutting any funding from other areas to provide the extra money.

Earlier this year, the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security recommended national security agencies — such as the AFP — be exempt from the annual funding cuts referred to as efficiency dividends. But Mr Keenan said that will not occur, arguing that "no agency is exempt from the efficiency dividend". "… But the money that is contained within this announcement, on top of all the extra significant resourcing we have given to the federal police, more than makes up for that," he said.

The additional funding will be used to hire:

Specialist response capabilities: Police negotiators, tactical response officers, bomb response technicians and canine resources specialising in drug, cash and explosive detection.
Covert physical and technical capabilities: Physical surveillance teams, covert online investigators, undercover operation members and police technical teams.
Forensics and intelligence capabilities: Digital forensics, crime scene investigators, firearms and armoury specialists, biometric experts, forensic intelligence analysts, and operational intelligence professionals.

114 Australian killed by terrorists* = Billions of dollars of expenditure with a fresh top up of $321.4 million.

320 Aboriginal deaths in custody** since the 1991 Royal Commission report. = lol nobody gives a gently caress let's cut NIg Nog legal aid some more lol

Senator Cory Bernardi has claimed elements of the media are deliberately ignoring him since he split from the Liberal party to found the Australian Conservatives.

Bernardi told Sky News’ Outsiders on Sunday that the media had given him a “bigger megaphone” when he was a maverick or rebel in the Liberal party.

Most people cannot afford a house these days, because they want a house with everything in it rather than buy a basic budget house and gradually, as they can afford it, put in the extras themselves. In 1970 we bought a 3bed 1 bath house with no garden, no fly-screens, no floor-coverings or curtains, no garage and no built-ins apart from kitchen cupboards and bathroom, vanity. Over time, as money allowed, we added a family room and study, garage, gardens etc. These days a new house has at least 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, landscaping, double garage, built-in robes, fly screens, and often carpets, curtains and white goods as well. All these extra-necessities come at a cost.

I bet these so called youngesters frozen out of the housing market want a fridge too

That's actually all we're looking for in a family home! The only houses selling with all that extra poo poo at the mcmansions in semi-rural outer suburbia that was unplumbed farmland when you were buying simple houses in "the good old days"

And those sell because of the land value. I would love to buy a nice little simple place and fix it up for my family but I'm out gunned by investors who want to redevelop/renovate and flip. That's also why half the houses selling have new fixtures which would confuse the elderly real estate browser - the poo poo ones are quickly and cheaply renovated so it's hard to even find a simple fixer house anymore

Federal election hangs on QLD. The ALP needs a minor swing there to win government. I think a swing of 2 percent causes a gently caress load of blue seat to tumble down. Next election will have a crazy amount of pandering for Queensland.

Even on polling aggregates QLD is still in the LNPs favour but there's a gently caress load of seat swag to be picked off so the ALP is probably gonna sing the song of the rural protectionist in order to bag a super majority. They are basically singing the Katter tune specifically to pick up such voters.

Solution to housing affordability: buy a house without rugs.

I see you're asking 1.5mil for your 3 bed townhouse an hour outside of the city. If you take out the curtains, how about knocking it down to 400k. At least the cost of landscaping the 8m2 of concrete courtyard out the back shouldn't be more than 600k.

It might have been a conscious decision but I think "the labor party is completely tone deaf" is always a plausible explanation (even though "the labor party panders to racists".is also very plausible).
