It's funny how all these big budget sci fi movies ALWAYS portray advanced alien cultures as a single super clean city on a planet. Like if you visited earth, there'd be poo poo everywhere. Overcrowded slums. Big dirty factories and mines. Hookers and criminals. I want to see a fat prostitute engineer. Hopefully wearing a hat.

I mean, the alien almost feels stapled on to the movie about David that Ridley really wanted to make. So fellow David fans, be excited. But about the alien, I love how much Ridley portrays it walking upright with perfect posture like a human. It's goofy and campy in the most awesome way. He just does not give a gently caress about its portrayals in any of the movies he did not direct.

GotG is great. Space Opera with a 70s / 80s comic aesthetic ala Starblazer, an incongruous soundtrack from the same era, and characters you care about with actual payoffs. When the first one came out it was quite unique. I think I like the second one even more.

Prometheus' Christ figure is explicitly the slimy alien nicknamed 'the deacon', whose brother is shown literally crucified on a mural. Christ is abject, suffering, human. The cave painting looks like an invitation, but then put on the They Live sunglasses. Now what does it say? It's a display of pure power. "Obey us."

When people talk about wanting 'answers', what they mean is a synopsis - a Cliff's Notes version of the film to replace the actual film. So a decontextualized quote from an interview on Movies.com bears more weight than the actual movie that's directly in front of your face. This is, unfortunately, why Aliens is the most popular of the films.

It's not so bizarre: Inception is deemed "too confusing" because there's so much exposition. People still demand a plot synopsis, but Inception's plot synopsis is substantially longer than the actual film and requires complex graphs + charts. (See also: Primer).

David learns to think in trinary code (that's how they describe it) and becomes a very overtly antagonistic villain instead of the ambiguous sad trickster genie, also lots of fan fictiony encounters with aliens. In terms of plot beats, the most substantial difference was instead of urns of goo they find traditional alien eggs, David is much more overtly and two dimensionally evil, and instead of goo infections/snakes down throats people get facehugged, leaning to a traditional xeno in the final act. Otherwise the film's plot points are much the same. Spaiht's draft had a lot of extra clunky exposition for everything though. A lot of characters exist just to describe the mechanical workings of things in a very stilted manner. Jesus being an Engineer was never in any script, it was an idea that was floated in a brain storming session and quickly shot down because it was too on the nose. Ridley just liked the thematic aspect, so he added some allusions to cruciforms and set the film on Christmas. There were also some other elements from Spaihts script that were kept in Lindelof's but never filmed. The biggest being David visiting Weyland in his dreams to update him on the mission's progress. Actually, a fair amount of the unused stuff from Spaihts script makes its way into Covenant, funny enough. Though I think it's handled a lot better in this film than in his script.
