Was Lucio really nerfed that hard? His passive trickle healing went down but not his amp heal, the only talent he lost was the one where his knockback blinded, and he still has access to Rejuvenescência which is a pretty significant heal boosting talent.

I mean it was a 1/3 cut to his passive trickle which seems pretty hefty.

I did some back of the napkin math and accounting for amp it up Lucio's overall HPS at 20 is better than, say, Brightwing's without taking talents into consideration...Brightwing can talent into reducing Soothing Mist CD but Lucio can get a pretty huge boost to his amp heal at 16 and/or increase amp duration at 10. I don't know what's considered acceptable baseline for something like that in HotS but I mean, it doesn't look like they completely gutted him.

Bring It Together seems inferior to Rejuvenescência. At level 0, the increase is 52 HP/seconds compared to Rejuvenescencia's 3% HP per second. For 52 HP/s to be better than 3% HP/s, the hero would have to have less than 1740 HP at level 0.

Heroes this applies to: Abathur, Brightwing, Cassia (just barely), Chromie, Falstad, Genji, Jaina, Illidan (by a hair), Kael'thas, Li Li, Li-Ming, Lt. Morales, Lúcio himself, Lunara, Medivh, Murky, Nova, Probius, Raynor, Samuro (just barely), Sgt. Hammer (just barely), Sylvanas, Tassadar, TLV, Tracer, Tyrande, Valla, Zagara (barely), Zeratul

29/65, less than half of the cast, and with most of these being supports that Lucio is unlikely to be grouped with, mages that you're unlikely to have more than one of to a squad, or characters that would benefit almost as much from Rejuvenescência.

And then you take in account how much more you're healing your tanks and bruisers with percentage health, that Bring It Together has a condition, and that the squishy heroes likely won't benefit too much from increased healing throughput over baseline Amp It Up, and I really can't see a scenario outside QM four assassins where I would ever take Bring It Together over Rejuvenescência.

So why do I bring this up? Because with Blizzard removing Heliotropics Lúcio really only has two talents at level 16.

Bring It Together would probably be more attractive if it also enhanced the speed aura in addition to the healing aura.

Have they said anything about WHY they're removing Heliotropics? Seems kind of out of the blue as a nerf choice.

Yeah that's the one that seems weird to me. Of course it was kind of a weird talent to stick into a level that's all about Amp, it would fit better as a talent at 4 with the other knockback talents.

Because Lucio isn't The Blind Support, he's The Speed Support who also does a bit of knockback because he has it in Overwatch(?).

To me the only confusing part of that relationship is calling it "spell armor." Like yeah, I know what it means now, but you'd think they'd pick something a little less immediately confusing in a game where sometimes abilities are spells but sometimes they're shooting someone with a rifle or throwing bombs at them. "Ability Armor" and "Attack Armor," maybe.

To me it's confusing because Arthas has 'armor' which only reduces basic attack damage, Is that all armor now? EG does Morales' safeguard only reduce autos because it's also just called 'armor'?

"Armor" reduces all damage. Arthas explicitly has "physical armor" which reduces AA damage.

e:\/Yes, Cannoneer is the rare case where an AA becomes spell damage. I think tower shots and minions are also physical damage.

Yeah, there's three types of armor. Armor is a reduction to all damage. Physical Armor reduces orange damage numbers, pretty much just auto attacks. Spell Armor reduces purple damage numbers, mostly abilities but there are some outliers like Li-Ming's Cannoneer talent.

It stacks up to 1337 times, which of course you will never ever even come close to anything like that. Keep in mind it's also only the middle portion that it gains from and increases (so between the target and you).

Matchmaking keeps setting up varian and 4 assassins against 5 assassins, so if he specs taunt the first team suddenly has a tank, putting the tankless team at serious disadvantage.

Varian's design is mostly fine imo, including shield wall. He just needs more than one viable spec to make the whole drafting ambiguity gimmick work.

Twin Blades is good as a QM stomp spec for when you want to gently caress around - it gets shut down pretty easily but that's fine, really. It's great for lower level play. The biggest problem is that Colossus Smash is designed to make him squishy melee burst assassin, when that's the one that ought to be bruiser-esque. As a result, it remains a bad pick, so most drafts mean Varian pick = Taunt. Boring.

They're changing the QM matchmaking to make him count as a tank, which is nice. Though you'll still get QM Varians who don't spec Taunt against a proper tank, but that's better than the current option really.

Yea I don't think he's that much of a problem because unbalanced comps will happen anyway. I'm more bothered by having a Medicith on my team, have yet to see one not be a total deadweight who just flies aroynd in raven form all game. Almost as bad as Novas - you got infinite ammo, if you can't get a sick kill just go and shoot something anyway dammit.

That's a problem with QM's matchmaking, not a problem with Varian's design.

Smash Varian is not squishy you dweeb. I've seen him quite often in HL and played it as triple parry into smash and you can both delete one person from the map as well as be invincible for like 8 seconds in a row.

There's no misuse. I'm awful at Varian and just press the parry button from the time I go in until the fights over and it works mostly.

Oops I didn't make it clear earlier but I was mostly talking about pro play. Varian's specific multiclass design was to make competitive match drafts more interesting, but as things stand now Taunt has been picked in 284/285 games. Though I guess you can also say Colossus Smash has a 100% win rate :v:

Fair point about www smash varian for HL, so it's probably a mobility problem that's hurting him there? Both for keeping up with people without Warbringer and a lack of an escape.

This is all very confusing. Do you mind if I call you Rodriguez?
Multi-class was a silly gimmick and just like talent diversity in general is just never going to work the way they want. There's no going back to the days of everyone discovering their own personal builds, we all have the internet now. Taunt is best, we pick taunt. Until they nerf it, then we pick the new thing. That said, Taunt/Parry Varian is both fun and good so outside of the QM thing there's really no problem. For QM they just have to remember to keep reclassifying him every time they change up which build is the good build.

Talent variety is alive and well for most heroes, though. Yeah, there's usually The Build chosen by pro players, but there's almost always flex picks in that build and there's usually other builds that work just fine. I think it's overall been a successful system, though definitely not perfect.

In QM taunt is not picked nearly as much as it should. If they made him a tank in the matchmaking, people would whine because their Varian wanted to be a dope dualwielding assassin .

Is there some basic draft guide somewhere? Just enough so that I don't embarrass myself completely if I try unranked draft?

My experience from Dota 2 is basically that there aren't many good reasons not to play ranked, so I figured I should try some unranked draft while I work my way to 14 heroes at level 5.

I was playing Tyrande the other day and was surprised to see she still has talent tiers with 5 choices. Lo and behold, they announce her rework the next day.

Thrall's the only hero I can think of who still has a single clear winner at the majority of tiers. Most heroes have pretty good build diversity now.
