Decided to go with force feeding. All you guys who've done this successfully have my immense respect. Even a sub-7 lb cat can pull off some drat ninja poo poo while in a purrito and get food everywhere.

While litterbox chat is happening, has anyone tried those luuup cat boxes? I ordinarily hate the sifting trays, but this one seems way more conveniently set up than the ones I've seen in stores.

The swelling's actually decreased since yesterday to the point where it's barely noticeable now so 1) that makes it harder to get funny pics and 2) I might skip the vet given that he doesn't appear to give a poo poo and looks pretty much fine now. I was just freaking out yesterday cause I hadn't seen him in two weeks and when you come home and see your baby with a hosed up face you get a lil nervous.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good cat-proof automatic/timed feeder? My cat is a fatass and will wake us up at 3-4 am begging for food by banging on the door, so I tried using a SSSCat in front of the door at night, and he just meowed super loudly instead. Then I got this feeder, which worked great for a while... until he managed to snap off one of the timer wheels to get the thing open. Using only one of them has been a pain, since I like to set it once a day so he can eat before I wake up and before I get home from work (so he stops associating me with him being fed). I'd get another one, but I have a feeling he's just gonna do the same thing. I've looked into getting one of the circular ones that rotates, but I'm concerned that he'll be able to either snap off the door or push the compartment along. I've also looked at the ones that drop food down, and it looks like a lot of those have problems where the cat can stick their paw in to allow food through. Have any of you found one that works for particularly determined, food-obsessed furry shitheads? The aforementioned rear end in a top hat, being an rear end in a top hat:

I'd recommend one of the drop down ones that you stick in a plastic tub you modify and cut a hole in to drop the food even further. Basically set up a chute system in the tub so he can't get to the food at all.

Got a five year old neutered male cat, my fiancé has had him since he was a kitten. He's never shown any hunting tendencies before then suddenly this week we've had a dead sparrow, dead mouse last night and tonight a gravely injured mouse. Any reason he's started this all of a sudden? I can deal with disposing of the corpses whilst I'd rather not, but finishing them off is something I'm not too pleased about.

We're heading out of town for two weeks and leaving the kittens at home, not at a boarding facility, because last year when we boarded our cats when we came home Gummitch died two days later and he was perfectly healthy when we dropped him off. Kit-kit got very sick too and almost died but she managed to hang on until April as some of you may recall. Though losing her brother was a massive blow to her psyche and she was never the same. Soooooo. No boarding. The kittens are a year old, we will be gone for two weeks. We have someone coming to feed them and scoop litter, how much should he play with them? They are a bit skittish around people not in the family. But he'll be by every day. We've left cats before when we go places but never cats this young for this long.

My very vocal cat, Jasmine, has started to act out a lot at night and very early in the morning and my girlfriend and I suspect it's probably because she's bored and lonely. We're missing out on a lot of sleep because she claws the side of the mattress (making a pretty loud drumming sound), and if we remove her from the room, it's about 20 minutes before she's clawing at the door and meowing. We adopted her when she was about 2 years old and it's been almost 3 years since then, and she's been fine until fairly recently. We're trying to think of ways to keep her stimulated and not lonely when we're not around (or, y'know, need to sleep). Any tips for what we can do? More than my own sleep--I can deal with that with coffee--I'm mostly just worried about her if she's distressed. I guess we could put Soft Paws on her front claws, but that seems like it's just stopping her from bugging us and not really helping her. The most extreme thing I could think of would be getting another cat, which is honestly something I'd like anyway (I wouldn't get another animal just to keep my cat company if we didn't actively want another cat anyway). I grew up with two cats--they never really got along, to be fair, but my parents had no idea how to introduce them to each other--and I really love having cats around. But we live in an apartment (about 950 square feet), not a house, and Jasmine's five years old, so I worry that we either don't have enough space for two cats to be happy, and/or that it's just too late to introduce a new cat to her at this point. It's not too late to introduce another cat if you want a second cat, especially if you get one around the same age instead of a kitten or young cat who's going to be much higher energy than a five-year-old cat. What leads you to think that it's your cat suddenly being bored and lonely though? Cats usually get less active between 2 and 5 years old, not more active, so I'm wondering if something changed about your lifestyle recently? Has there been another cat hanging around? Is it just that you respond to the cat when she bugs you at night so she's learned that that's a fun thing to do? Nothing wrong with getting another cat if you want to get another cat and it probably will keep her more occupied, but get another cat because you want to, not because you want your cat to stop bugging you at night.

Oh, definitely. And it'd be a major decision, too, not something we're going to do necessarily very soon. I don't think anything major has changed about our lifestyle recently. We moved last year and she freaked out a bit (like you'd expect when you suddenly change a cat's environment) but that was months ago and she'd settled down since then. It is possible another cat has been hanging around. Twice, like a month or two ago, we've heard her meow extremely loudly in the middle of the night to find her at the back glass door with her tail puffed up, extremely on-edge. But we never saw what it was outside, so my guess was just that it was another cat getting too close to her territory or something, and it hasn't happened in about a month. It could also be that we're responding, I guess. My usual rule has been to ignore her when she does that and just pretend to be asleep, but my girlfriend doesn't have the patience for that--she values her sleep much more than I do--so she picks up the cat and puts her outside the room, then closes the door. Then the cat scratches at the door on and off for the next few hours. I still try to ignore her when she does that, but sometimes I just give up and go out there so she'll stop scratching the door. If it really is just that she's messing with us for attention, maybe the Soft Paws approach is the best option.

That's basically how it went in my sister's old apartment. The building had a mouse problem, but she didn't learn about it until she was moving out(for unrelated reasons) and the neighbors asked her if she was leaving because of the mice. I've always assumed that her two cats made the apartment smell like cat and the mice just kept the gently caress away from it.

We picked up a cat from the shelter today, he's ~1 year and very cute. We're carefully trying to introduce him to our other cat, but it's gonna be a slow thing. He was hiding under the bathtub in his temporary room for 5 hours or so, but now he's out and about and exploring the bathroom and getting pets and eating food.

Moved into a new house. One of the plants in the yard is Oleander which is apparently poisonous. Do I need to pull this out? I've got two cats and they do like to chew on a couple of particular plants out there but they haven't really gone near the oleander. Just wondering if anyone has had issues with this.

AARGH. Wolfgang, why do you have poo poo-encrusted... fur? cardboard? sticking out of your arsehole? I've seen him with fur in his mouth. Just nomming up stray fur lying around. I've purged all string from the house, but he just can't help but eat bad things. I guess I need to really vacuum the place to get rid of all the hair :/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boG0g29qz94 The new cat is settling in very well. He's purring loudly in that video but I had to mute it because I couldn't stand listening to my congested breathing. The old cat hasn't accepted him at all. We let them see each other yesterday, and she continuously made the deepest of guttural growls I've ever heard from her. And hissing from her, of course. The new cat couldn't care less though, which seems more frustrating for her. We probably won't let them meet physically until he gets neutered on Tuesday (so Wednesday or so).

My kitty recently has started to bite me when she's happy or when she wants my attention. This is typically fine but she bites really hard, enough to leave a mark that last for hours. Is there a way for me to teach her to not bite so hard, or stop the behavior? My nose is typically stuffed for one reason or another, but I noticed a strange thing where every time I go to scoop my cat's litter, my nose clears up right away every time. I'm clueless as to why this is but it does make me look forward to scooping litter each day.  Someone help me tame this monster
