Radicalizing a liberal is a better use of time then trying to prove your purity to a tankie, if you want your other local groups to pay attention to you or respect you, you need people, and you need to do tangible poo poo. Without those 2 things liberals will look at you like a college book club.

Went to a socialist feminism panel put on by my local along with International Socialist Organization and Socialist Alternative. There were some tankies outside who had a less solidarity-based message and more a purity-based one. Inside was much better, though one panelist I think could have done a better job about a response to this statement from National. Still it was good. I hope we can keep up the solidarity with other socialist groups and build a local leftist coalition.

I feel like people like to throw words they've learned on socialist meme pages around without having any clue what they reference. If international working class political revolution is "tankie" then every singe socialist that has ever existed is a tankie. Somebody earlier in the thread I think referenced the ISO and IWW as being tankie as well, which is really out of touch because the ISO is trotskyist and the IWW is made up of anarchists and trade unionists.

This might not be a thing for newer, smaller chapters yet, but in NYC with like 2000 members, a problem is that there aren't super clear structures and responsibilities and so a lot depends on personal relationships. This is doesn't sound bad, but it also means that a lot of things fall through the cracks: emails don't get answered, people don't follow up, etc. It's....tricky. And when trying to build out those structures and lines of accountability, sometimes people chafe at that and think they're group is special and shouldn't have to report their progress to anyone or take requests from anyone, etc.

We're going through our first round of elections in June so everything is up in the air right now, but for where I'm at: - Meetings go on for too long and we don't get a lot done in them. I'm meeting with leadership after our reading group this week to try and remedy that. Emphasis on general meetings should be discussion and engagement, not just reading off an agenda. - Getting people to attend their second meeting and get into a committee (see above). We're working on a membership outreach plan in house. - Diversity. It's almost entirely white straight dudes with the occasional LGBTQ person rn. Apparently the last May meeting saw a huge upswing in women coming to the meeting and participating, but we still don't have a lot of PoC voices in a city that is IIRC 50% black. We have no idea how to fix this one
