but either way, like, I live in a "safe" relatively suburban part of the city but at least the neighbors are the Chinese guy with the electric MR2 foreverially working on an old Porsche, and the lesbian artist couple with the kiln in their garage, and the crazy Indian man with no teeth and a ton of dogs, and the screamy Russians upstairs.

i've been repeatedly told not to go to this one neighborhood of tampa or even look at any apartments for rent advertised that may be there and i have no idea why

like i assume it's where The Black Menace lives or whatever but it seems like a totally good neighborhood, it's got a nice little sushi restaurant and lots of stores and i have no idea what everyone's terrified of

like I had always dealt with listening to empty complaints about "that part of town" and kind of a general "black/brown -> criminal" belief. then i discovered that tons of these people are strongly afraid and suspicious of every nonwhite person they encounter, afraid everywhere they go that isn't inside their house, to them every place is crawling with nonwhite criminals that want to beat and rob them

they report every nonwhite person they see in their neighborhoods, everyone is scamming them, need cameras everywhere, etc
