Wario Chalmers! WAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Am I stuck in MotB? Late act 2 spoilers ahead

I'm at the part of the slumbering coven where you're visiting all the dreams. I just completed the one to get out of the contract and now there's a portal open in the middle that leads to the Wall with Bishop. There are also 2 sealed doors in the room that I can't open so my only option at this point seems to be to go through the portal. I talk to Bishop, the two fiends attack, and I literally can't beat them. I guess my rogue is built wrong or something but they dodge almost everything and one of the fiends regenerates so I can't damage it fast enough to kill. I've tried cheating and giving myself god mode and I'm just staring at this idiot missing all of his attacks for eternity. I'm not sure what to do next.

Just so I make sure, I've done Durlag's Tower, Aec'Letec and the ice island area for Tales of the Sword Coast. Is there anything else I should do prior to finishing the main quest or is that it?

Make a big save before you go, the end of werewolf island has had some scripting bug out on me that rendered the game unwinnable until I edited my save file.

Thanks brother. I'm going to be hitting that up tonight. Probably got about 10 hours total before the end of BG1 the it's off to the races.

Actually I may just make it a point to play through the DND games this summer with all the different rule sets.

Playing through NWN has made me wonder wtf Wizards of the Coast were smoking when they created 3E Clerics:

– Implosion (Best AoE Death Spell in the game, +3 DC Bonus, Works on Death Immune and Mind Immune)
– Holy Word, no save AoE party friendly blind
– Heal and Mass Heal
– Harm
– Can increase BAB to level of fighter with one spell
– Massive Accuracy/Damage Boosts
– Undead Turning
– Buffs out the gills
– Ridiculous Synergy with Monk

Was NWN a relatively faithful implementation of the 3E ruleset on Clerics?

Yeah, they were intentionally overpowered in the design of 3e to encourage people to play the party healer over the other options. Really, the actual solution was the wand of cure light wounds, but it wasn't seen that way at the time.

Both EE games have the fixpacks rolled in. You only need to tweak and mod it to taste and you're good to go.

In BG1 ranged combat makes most fights a lot easier, so try giving a bow or sling to everyone. Make sure your bards and wizards are using the wands you find, they're extremely powerful. Memorize remove fear on your cleric, most enemy mages cast horror as their first spell. In general, gold is a little tight to start with but eventually you'll have more than you know what to do with so don't be afraid to use consumables in tough fights.

Yeah particularly wand of fear and wand of monster summoning can get you through every difficult fight in the game. If a wand is out of charges you can sell it to a merchant and buy it again to get all the charges back, but it'll cost like 10k gold.

Playing through SoU it's surprisingly fun so far, though there are definitely some less fun things too. I decided to try for an Arcane Archer build since the class looked pretty interesting and relatively simple to build (one of my goals before playing this was not looking up poo poo about the game unless seriously necessary, including trying to figure out what kinda builds are massively OP), and I've mostly enjoyed it, it's felt neither under nor overpowered so far which is nice, although I've only just gotten my first actual Arcane Archer level in the interlude so who knows where it'll go. One thing I definitely appreciate is just how quick you get experience compared to the IE games, it's kinda refreshing and for once I'm not too bothered about this being a shorter than epic-length game either. I kinda regret not picking a spellcasting-focused character, but I still gotta play through NWN2's expansions (and maybe the main campaign if I work up the interest) and maybe try some community modules so plenty of opportunities.

I do have a host of issues with it though. To start with a minor thing, it's kinda nice getting all these Persuade/Intimidate options everywhere, but...it gets kinda repetitive to ONLY see these two skills used in conversation. I assume it's a system thing (I basically have no experience with 3rd edition stuff, except some IWD2 long ago which didn't have tons of dialogue anyway) but it feels very limited and lacking both imagination and proper options for the player. Second off, gently caress these camera controls. I'm actually used to it now at least but sheesh that was rough at the start. Third, I'm not a big fan of Henchmen at all to be honest and vastly prefer properly controlling the progression of my party-members. Also I definitely prefer larger parties if I'm in a ruleset that's still as restrictive as this one. Like, I had some trouble with the Rogue/Cleric companion's AI just kinda shutting down WRT doing Rogue stuff even though I was telling her to do them and on the way to fixing it I came across some info that randomly Rogues are the only ones able to disarm traps over DC whatever, and it's just like...what? Why is it even a skill then? And why would my non-Rogue character ever bring Deekin or that half-orc fellow along and die to every trap? The fact that you don't get any plain jane fighter companion also seemed kinda weird, granted I definitely needed Rogue more even being an archer (thank you point-blank shot) but I can definitely imagine if I was running some fragile Wizard/Rogue set-up or similar I'd be really annoyed at that.

Finally, sometimes the backtracking and slow trudging through the land definitely gets tedious. I guess I've been spoiled by using so many tricks and cheats in IE games to get my party where they need to be ASAP. Wouldn't work so great when I'm playing stuff I haven't seen before though!

E: Forgot to mention, the 3E system somehow feels ten times more confusing in this game than it did in IWD2 to me. A lot of it is lack of easy access to information - where on my character-sheet do I see my damage reductions? Where do I see my attacks per round given you can have modifiers to that beyond BAB but the game seemingly only shows you your BAB-gained attacks? Is there any way in-game of telling what bonuses I have that don't stack without memorizing the rules and looking over each item individually? So far the answers to all of these and more seem to be 'nah'.

I just finished the SoU Interlude as well with my Wizard.

Main thing bringing the game down for me at the moment is the companion AI – it's unbelievably frustrating how bad it is, whether it's picking locks/disarming traps, doing absolutely nothing when combats happening and a lot of the time actually targeting me at random.

Reroll your character until it has about 90 points, always take 18 dex, and stack up on bows. Quicksave before entering inns.

Make sure to put the AI commands to your hotbar, if they seem passive just use the "attack nearest" or whatever it's called.

Keep a wand of magic missiles handy to interrupt casters. Also, make sure she has the basic party structure of warrior, healer, mage, thief with the other two slots being wildcards. Having two ranged archers is really effective in most of the fights.

If you make an Elf, no matter what else you choose (except cleric?) you'll be able to use a longbow and longsword pretty well. Bows get 2 attacks per round right off the bat so they are basically the easiest most powerful weapon in the early game, which can sometimes be difficult. Don't be afraid to use a lot of consumables. If a fight isn't an instant rollover then go ahead and use some, they make the entire game much easier, especially wands of sleep and web and monster summoning.

Hey, Baldur's gate specialists, I need your help.
I'm trying to reinstall the game and to mod it. I have BGEE and BGIIEE, along with Siege of Dragonspear, all of them through Steam. The problem is, I'd like to install Ascension, SCS, Tactics, Unfinished Business, and Tweaks anthology. I must be doing something wrong because I'm getting errors all over the place. What am I missing? What should be my install order? Are there specific versions for the EE versions?

You can use Weidu mods with EE, Tactics might not work if it hasn't been updated since the EE came out, but pretty much every mod for EE is installed with Weidu.

So I'm thinking of doing an ironman run in BG1 and 2, but I'm curious as to how other players treat Imoen for the purposes of story. If you have her in your party and she dies, do you consider the ironman run over because she plays such a central role in the story?

Ironman is widely considered to only be "the PC can't die", but nothing stops you from adding extra rules if you want. Like iron party! Maybe then you'll use Cernd but... probably not.

Resurrection exists in context of the world and Ironman runs are all about abusing meta knowledge of the game so I don't see why that should shut down a run.

I beat Ravel, but she killed 3 of my party members. I raise them, but the shadows wipe everybody. So now The Nameless One is alone. Anomen's quest doesn't change his casting ability. :v: All the increased wisdom score does is give him +2 level 1 and 2 spell slots. Other than spell slots (of which Viconia has 1 extra level 3 and 4 over him), he trades innate magic resistance for 7 levels of fighter. A good deal in my opinion, game mechanic wise anyway. He's really annoying but I haven't paid attention to BG dialogues in over a decade, new content notwithstanding.

Keldorn is a paladin who can cast true seeing and an extra powerful dispel magic, as well as use the best sword in the game.

Aerie, Anomen, Korgan, Mazzie, Edwin and Keldorn. If your don't install a happy mod Keldorn might get in a fight with Korgan and/or Edwin.

There's also Level 1 NPCs which lets you manipulate the stats and classes of every joinable NPC so if you love Jaheira for her fighter stats and her druid buffs you could make any other character a fighter/druid.
